Response to non-anime fans

My nephew watched some anime episodes the other day. He said, "They're cartoony, why do you watch that stuff. It's kinda dumb." I was speechless. I know lots of non-anime fans, but nobody has said a bad opinion about it. How would you respond to something like that?

Easy; don't. If someone doesn't like anime, then they don't like anime. Just leave it at that. Posting it here is kind of pointless.

Okay, couple things to consider:

1) How old is your nephew?

2) What anime did your nephew watch?

3) How much of that anime did they watch and BE SPECIFIC!!!

If you showed them something like Petite Princess Yucie, then YES they are going to think it's cartoony. There are things made for kids like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon, the shows that are really popular that have an older kid audience like DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Zatch Bell, or even Sailor Moon...

...and then there's the DEEP anime!

FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist...

The stuff that plays with your mind, makes you think, and actually gives you something to learn from afterwards (cause it's just THAT good).

Plus, the reaction is going to be dependent on who they are and what they have been exposed to. I know where you're coming from. I have a little brother who used to think anime was nothing but cartoon stuff. Then I caught him getting into DBZ, and the rest was taken from there.

Find the show they like, and you'll get a convert out of him. Trust me!

Why should your nephew even care in the first place?

If worst comes to worst he can always disown you.

Don't try to prove to your nephew that anime is good. If it doesn't peek his interest then that's just the way it is and attempting to convert him would probably scare him away more.

My friend, words can't express now much I DON'T give a fuck what your nephew thinks, and neither should you. In turn he could like child porn and I'm pretty sure you'd think he's nuts, or a series perv.

But will he care?

Probably not till you call the cops on his ass, but still.
