Science Fiction novels you wish to see as anime

Post by Madzack » Wed Oct 09, 2002 2:39 pm

Before I list them down, let me point out why this should be possible for any great science fiction novels to be made animated. In theory, it should've cut down the costs to make a live-action movie, although it might take longer to make one. Also, as always, anything is cooler when made into anime Besides, few years back, wasn't there an anime version of Heinlein's Starship Troopers?
Anyways, here are the lists of books that screams "Turn me to anime, Asamiya!":

Dune by Frank Herbert
If only to see a bishounen versions of Paul Muad'Dib & Feyd Rautha, as well as St. Alia, Chani, Irulan, Bene Gesserits & Jessica

Neuromancer by William Gibson

Uplift novels by David Brin

The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester

Forge of God & Anvil of Stars by Greg Bear

The Years of Rice & Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson
Sure to kick Sakura Taisen's sweet, juicy ass!

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

Slow River by Nicole Griffith
Like Noir or Gunsmith Cats, only kinkier

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

Mars series by Kim Stanley Robinson (Red, Green, Blue)

What about you? Any of your fave sf books you wanna see as anime?

The "Honor Harrington" series of books by David Weber. Treecats would seriously kick ass in anime... 8)

Definitely "Snow Crash". Who wouldn't like to see an anime about a half Asian/half black pizza delivery swordsman and a sassy skateboard messenger, set in a socially/economically wrecked America (or Japan, maybe? ) of anarchy and gated communities? One of my all time favorite books.

"The Stars My Destination" would be interesting, too, although perhaps not visually intriguing enough to sustain audience interest.

"The Martian Chronicles", by Ray Bradbury, might be good if presented in a Trigun or Bebop manner, i.e. individual, stand alone episodes building into one story and a conclusion.

I'm thinking of more.
I'm out...

Ender's series:

- Ender's Game

- Ender's Shadow, not really part of the series since the main character is Bean instead of Ender, but it still holds to the same storyline.

- Speaker of the Dead

- Xenocide

- Children of the Mind

The Wheel of Time series, marked fantasy/science fiction:

- Eye of the World

- The Great Hunt

- The Path of Daggers

- The Shadow Rising

- A Crown of Swords

- Lord of Chaos

- The Fires of Heaven

- Dragon Reborn

- Winter's Heart

Kenshin-like swordsmanship and other weapons.
GeneshaSeal - Dead Seals for Free
Orgasm - It's a Science

ever heard of the dragonlance series? that would make a bitchin' anime. but mainly the war of the lance, the one where they have tanis and flint, that trilogy of books kicked everything else i've ever read, and i have read some wheel of time books, but really any dragonlace book like:

vinas solamnus-excelent would be beutiful
legend of huma-good hero story
kaz the minotaur- good story for sarcastic people
reavers of the blood sea- great story for everybody, sailing, fighting, magic, gods, this has everything

Either of Stephen Donaldson's main works: the Thomas Covenant trilogies, and The Gap stuff. Covenant in particular struck me as something that could be translated to animé pretty well.

The "Sekai" series. Sekai no Seiki, Sekai no Monshu,Sekai no Monshu II, etc.

That's "Crest of the Stars" and its sequels, to the uninitiated.
