Is the FLCL dub any good?

Post by LenWidleheyt » Fri Apr 29, 2005 7:13 am

I just got the FLCL dvd box, and I'm about to watch it dubbed for the first time. But before that, I wanted to ask all of you who've seen it; is the dub any good? I love FLCL so much that I don't want to ruin it by watching a half-assed dub that takes away from the feeling of the series instead of adding to it. Do you think I should watch it?

I'll be blunt. The dub is PERFECT (well almost)!

Most of the VAs seriously sounds like the Japanese VAs, especially Kari Whalgren's debut role as Haruko. Not only they sound alike, but they were able to maintain most of the craziness the original director wanted. They were a few changes like Americanizing some Japanese bands, but that can be ignored easily. Of course the Japanese producers were indeed working closely with the guys in Synch-Point which explains the dead-on dub.

I highly recommend it. :D

If you check the commentary track on the first disc you'll find where the creator himself approved of the dub, so in that light it's not too bad overall. Still nothing like watching it in raw Japanese, but that's just one of my quirks...

What they all said.
Kamon and Shigekuni, especially, just have perfect voices for their roles.

Was that a limited-edition thing, or can you still get it? (just that I've seen FLCL sets with that box selling for rather ridiculous prices, even second-hand...)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
