Slayers TV is licensed...AGAIN?!

Post by angelx03 » Sat May 14, 2005 10:04 pm

I discovered this post in ANN forums and found this post in AnimeOnDVD forums. This is basically part of ACEN report:
"Funimation Industry Panel
May 14th, 2005

Funimation representatives announced the acquisition of the license to Slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try, all to be released in a remastered format. The remastering process will also involve restoring some minor edits from the previous release and redubbing some selected dialogue, with all efforts made to retain the original English cast. This release is being viewed as a ‘preservation’ action, to be sure the classic series isn’t lost to moratorium and so it can potentially be introduced to new fans. Slayers should arrive to market sometime from fall 2005 to early 2006 at a projected price point of around $50, approximately the current price for the series.
Wow, FUNi definetely has its surprises!

So I guess Central Park Media's and Enoki's licenese expired.

I already have Slayers. I like it and there's no way I'm going to buy a Funimation version. Though this leaves open the possibility of Slayers on TV. I remember when it was going to be on Sci Fi channel many years ago. Just couldn't figure out how to get around 'that time of the month' and other things.

I'm glad to see it. Anything, and I do mean anything, is an improvement over Central Park Media's releases. Maybe now I might even be able to use Slayers for source.

Doesn't ADV have a Slayers licence or two? I remember winning a Slayers disc at the AB '04 industry panel...

Yes, they do. ADV has the movies and the OVAs. CPM had the three TV series, which now Funimation apparently has.
