Evangelion Done or Not?
Well it seems all the remastered DVDs for Neon Genesis Evangelion are out, but I was wondering if anyone new the answers to these questions.
Will the movies be remastered as well?
Will there be a box set with all of the volumes (not just no.1)?
P.S.
Is Shinji less hated in the manga? I've read vol 1-5 (which supposedly parallel the show up to 5) and still don't see why everyone here hates his guts.

The movies were remastered as part of the Renewal boxset (I believe EoE was done in anamorphic widescreen instead of the letterboxed version). The correct question you should be asking is "Will anyone licence the Renewal versions of the movies?," the answer to which is "Manga Ent. owns the rights to the originals, so who knows."HeavyMetal wrote:Well it seems all the remastered DVDs for Neon Genesis Evangelion are out, but I was wondering if anyone new the answers to these questions.

Never heard of a Renewal series. I can't seem to find anything on it either.
I know Platinum contains some directors cuts. I think some of the alternate endings as well. I think there were four. I just really don't feel like wading through fan site junk to find out what to buy for the full Eva experience.

Shinji has more of a spine in the manga. I like him better that way.HeavyMetal wrote:Is Shinji less hated in the manga? I've read vol 1-5 (which supposedly parallel the show up to 5) and still don't see why everyone here hates his guts.

Volumes 6-8 are great as well; go read 'em.
It's the name for the Japanese R2 remastered release of Evangelion, which came out before ADV released an R1 version of it as Platinum. Absolute Destiny's DDR Project 3 track contains footage from Eva Renewal disks.HeavyMetal wrote:Never heard of a Renewal series. I can't seem to find anything on it either.
There is a box set with all 26 episodes, but it's not Platinum, which is what HeavyMetal was asking for.EXODO wrote:There is already a box set.HeavyMetal wrote:Will there be a box set with all of the volumes (not just no.1)?

I was at ACen and saw many boxsets of Eva:Platinum for sale. I didn't get a price, but there is a Platinum box set.Scintilla wrote:There is a box set with all 26 episodes, but it's not Platinum, which is what HeavyMetal was asking for.EXODO wrote:There is already a box set.HeavyMetal wrote:Will there be a box set with all of the volumes (not just no.1)?

Okay, because reservoireddog is confused and HeavyMetal is a lazy bastard, let me sum it up.
1. Evangelion DVDs released in Japan and then the US (by ADV). Video quality (as anybody familiar with the DVDs can attest to) sucks.
2. Death and Rebirth released in Japan and then the US (by Manga). Video quality marginally better than the TV DVDs but not much better.
3. End of Evangelion released in Japan and US (Manga), letterboxed.
4. Gainax goes back to ALL of the Evangelion stuff ever, remasters everything: TV series and both movies. This massive $500 boxset is released as Renewal. ErMaC posts screencaps online, the Eva fanbase shits itself with excitement. AD releases an AMV using Renewal footage, AMV fanbase shits itself with excitement.
5. ADV releases Director's Cut of 21 through 26 on DVD. They are mastered with the Renewal episodes and are unusually shiny.
6. ADV licences the TV Episodes of Renewal. Because they did not licence all of Renewal (including the movies), they could not release the new copies as Renweal, and had to name the series Platinum.
Are the above people now in the know, so to speak?
