I finally watched it all this year after seeing a few episodes at Fanime in 2004. While it was a very humorous series, the ending greatly disappointed me. :-\

As for similar series. . . I know it reminded me of something, but I can't remember what right now. Actually, the thing I mentioned in the spoiler block does remind me a little bit of some of the events in Death Note, except that it actually worked in Death Note. And Death Note is most definitely not a comedy.
