What got you into anime?

Post by Banana_Boat » Sun Jun 26, 2005 7:45 pm

And what was the first anime series that you bought?

What got me into anime? Thats a hard question for me, a lot of fucked up moments in life...i guess everyone has a story here, personal, non-personal, its definitley something that became a part of your life, as well as mine.

The first anime series that i owned was evangelion.

You guys?

Gotta love SBS, they screened Evangelion here in Aus a while back, that was the first anime I watched before I knew what anime was, there was that devil man ova's, then going back a decade and a bit, astro boy, speed racer, transformers. Classics bore the shit out of me now.

the thing that probably got me into anime was Dragon Ball Z...which i look back on and it's an okay anime, but i don't think it's exceptionally great.

I've seen anime before i knew what it was like Thunder Cats and the old Transformers on UPN, but it wasn't until Toonami back when it was ran by Moltar showing Dragonball Z i didn't get into anime. which makes me wonder, why didn't they ever show the original TF's, they showed Gundam.

I saw Voltron as a kid, but didn't know it was anime until recently. . .I watched the wonderful Cartoon Network version of Sailor Moon in the mid-90s, liked it, but didn't really get into anything, until early 2003 when my younger sister lent me some of the Sailor Moon movies. While watching them, I thought, "This is something I could watch comfortably for hours on end." At that point, I could afford to start collecting anime DVDs, so I bought up the Sailor Moon discs to "recapture" the old days, and moved on to other series. Eventually, I discovered the power of bootlegs, downloads, and trading with fellow anime fans to expand my collection, along with a hefty share of R1 purchases to support the industry, of course. :)

(I only mention illegal anime for historical purposes here, okay?)

hmm...tough question cause anime has always been around in some shape or form...

the first time i got into japanese stuff was when i got a playstation..and i started playing the final fantasy series...

then came along pokemon and low and behold- a POKEMON TV SHOW! wow! a game thats also a tv show- tahst got to be good- and i used to race home from school everyday at 4.30 to watch it on sky one..

then dbz started and i guess the rest is history- sailormoon, escaflowne..flint the time detective..*shudder* monsetr rancher, digimon a whole spawn of anime popped up and i checked the dusty section in my video store for more titles....sigh...those were the days..

I watched Gundam Wing as a kid but never really knew it was anime. But I firstt started to like anime after seeing Inuyasha. My mom tried to convince me anime was evil.

Watched Ronin Warriors in 1992. I watched Voltron and Speed Racer before that but didn't know it was anime.
