RESIDENT EVIL DISCUSSION: NEMESIS (GAME) - NEMESIS (MOVIE)

Post by W i l l o w » Sun Aug 21, 2005 5:27 pm

Contains spoilers for those who have not seen the movie, or played the game. While the movie "RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE" was loosely based on several variations of RESIDENT EVIL games, there has been many complaints from supposed game fanboys that the movie version of the legendary bio weapon, Nemesis, fails in comparison to the Nemesis in the game, because of one simple thing; they all proclaim that he turned into a "good-monster" at the end of the movie by helping Alice - Jill - Carlos - L.J. - and Angie to "escape." While never ignoring the fact that the movie version of Nemesis is majority different from the video game character, you gotta remember this Nemesis has a human element to him, while the Nemesis in the game was simply created by Umbrella and has no human element to it - it just kills, if not randomly, and has no remorse for anything that stands in its way (I.E., S. T. A. R. S. MEMBERS). So here's my comparison of the two;

2): GAME NEMESIS: Nemesis is one of the deadliest B.O.W. (Bio-organic weapon) specifically created by Umbrella Corporation to kill all S.T.A.R.S. members. He is actually a T-103 Tyrant (seen in Resident Evil 2) inserted with the Nemesis Parasite. He is an 8 foot tall monster, wearing a black trenchcoat and has a scarred face and protuding tentacles in his body. Tyrants are formidable creatures created by injecting a compatible human with T-virus and was given strength, speed and agility greater than any human. But because of its lack of intelligence due to the degenerative effects of the T-virus to the subjects brain, the Tyrants were not able to follow simple instructions and were not fit for military purposes which is the main goal of Umbrella Corporation. However, the European Branch of Umbrella managed to solve this problem by creating a parasite that will be able to control the Tyrant and prevent it from degenerating brain tissues. They called it the Nemesis Parasite. The parasite does not only provide intelligence but also regenerative ability, strength and speed beyond the capabilities of the Tyrants. Compatible subjects are extremely rare but nonetheless, Umbrella Corporation acquired a few subjects. The first subject maintained human level of independent thought and tried to escape the laboratory. Umbrella Corporation destroyed it and the second subject's intelligence was restricted. This is the Nemesis in the game. Two other Nemesis were created also. Lisa Trevor, detail in Umbrella Corporation section, tied together all the viruses besides the T-Veronica, T-Virus, G-Virus, Nemesis Parasite, Founder Virus, and other viruses not heard of. Tyrants were trying to be created in U.S. while Nemesis was in France. The hosts died five minutes after the parasite was administered. The French got a hold of Hunters and injected them with the Nemesis. This experiment eventually lead the French Umbrella to create the Enhanced Tyrant, after the combat data of the two others before. Later on the Tyrant was injected and was strong enough to withstand the Nemesis and survive. The researchers were shocked with results. The Nemesis is intelligent enough to comprehend its mission and is able to wield weaponry. He is also able to speak the word S.T.A.R.S. and is the first B.O.W. that is capable to communicate. His body is very tough and able to resist weaponry's such as bullets and even explosives. Nemesis was issued with a rocket launcher when he was sent to search and destroy remaining S.T.A.R.S. member in the Raccoon City. He killed Brad Vickers (seen in Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2) by using his tentacle. Nemesis was finally destroyed by Jill Valentine. But the events that caused his death were very extreme, and highly unlikely to ever be repeated, including a bath in acid designed to break down industrial waste, and shots from the U.S Marine Unit's secret energy weapon, Paracelsus' Sword. 1): MOVIE NEMESIS: He was manifested from the infected Environmentalist named Matt Addison, who unwilling joined Alice and the commandos down into the Hive to find his sister Liz, who was unfortunately killed my the T-Virus and was killed. While everyone was picked off the closer they got to escaping the Hive, Matt and Alice managed to escape the death zone, only Matt was scratched by one of the bio-weapons (or Undead, I cannot remember). Thus when the two were captured by Umbrella Scientists, Matt began to mutate from the infection and was taken to "The NEMESIS PROGRAM," where he was tested on along side Alice. When the Hive was opened and the city was under viral siege by the T-VIRUS, Umbrella activated their Nemesis (hours after waking Alice up from hibernation) as a sort of test run. When the creature came across S.T.A.R.S. Members hiding out in a building, Umbrella gave it a new objective. Kill all Stars Members. Nemesis succeeded in his mission and left L.J. at peace when he dropped his customized guns (some probably complained about this). Nemesis by chance came across Alice and Jill's ragtag group and killed an angered Pyeton Wells and aimed for Jill but found himself confronted by Alice - his primary target. He proceeded to give the superhuman a run for her money and disengaged afterward. Nemesis isn't seen until the end of the movie, where he engages in battled with Alice again, only this time for superiority. When Alice remembers who Nemesis is, the creature appears to remember who she is, which is probably while he reacted the way he did when Cain said "Evolution has its' dead ends." Nemesis is either angered by the fact he has been put on the back burner for Alice or remembers who he used to be and proceeds to take out his revenge on all things associated with Umbrella (the surrounding Commandos), but never gets his chance to kill Major Cain, he was killed by a downed helicopter he shot with his rocket launcher. He certainly wasn't saving Alice, she was in no immediate danger of being killed by the helicopters.

MISSING ELEMENTS: 1): Movie Nemesis is missing the tentacles in his wrists; 2): the lengthy body mass (he's a bit stocky, but isn't lacking in height), 3): the pale complexion, 4): The regardless behavior toward everyone and everything alive or otherwise in Raccoon City.

So, quite frankly, I think Paul Anderson did a good job with Nemesis aside from the fact that he was a subplot for Alice and wasn't seen but 4 times -- if you count the time he wakes up---- in the movie. But really, if you just realized that you've been turned into a hideous creature by a large company out for no one but themselves, what are you gonna do? Do what Major Cain says (I.E., kill Alice and everyone else, namely the two remaining S.T.A.R.S. members) or are you gonna kill the creeps directly responsible for your horrible transformation and everyone working for them? If I were Formally known as Matt Addison, I'd take the latter. But by no means was Nemesis helping out Jill, Alice, Carlos, Angela, and Lloyd Jefferson Wayne (L.J.), because if he were, I'd think they would've made that really clear in the movie.

[MOD99: This has very little to do with anime, so I'm locking it.]
Its the stronger who create the weaker; it was the strong earth that created the weak colonies and almost drove them to destruction!
