I would watch the actual series first (Ranma 1/2 [Season 1], Ranma 1/2 [Season 2], Ranma 1/2 [Season 3] etc.). After that if you still have a desire to watch more Ranma 1/2 look into the movies and OAV's. The movies and OAV's are just extra stories that go along with the anime series.

There is no particular order that you need to go in.
OAV and OVA are (to my knowledge) the same thing.

I'm not sure where the movies and OAVs fit on the timeline. It doesn't matter too terribly much, since they're basically centered on the main characters that are introduced by the end of season 2. Oh, and in addition to those listed, there are also seasons : 4 (Outta Control), 5 (Martial Mayhem), 6 (Random Rhapsody), and 7 (Ranma Forever). It's quite a long series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you want a great store with lots of Ranma, I'd try Suncoast or For Your Entertainment (FYE), they both have Ranma out the wazoo; Ranma was one of the first big Animes to come to America, and was by far the longest before DBZ showed up, so 'tis pretty plentiful.

(Japan release info)

"When, and in what order was the anime released?
First the 161 TV episodes were shown, then they started releasing the OVA's. At around the same time as the TV episodes finished, the first movie came out.
The first TV season was shown early 1988, and re-started late 1988 and continued until September 25th 1992. The OVAs started around Spring 1993.
Movie 1 was released on the 11th of February 1991, movie 2 on the 8th of January 1992, and movie 3 in Summer 1994."

Otherwise... what IcyCloud said.
