Sending out the Batsignal was my first reaction , but in all fairness, Moderator Tsunami Jones directed him here:
Of course, maybe he needs to be more specific.Tsunami Jones wrote:Hello, and welcome!
Anyway, this is not the place to introduce yourself, or to talk about manga. There isn't a place to actually introduce yourself to the community, so that's off-topic. However, if you wish to talk about manga, you can do so here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=7 . Just keep in mind that the topic needs to be more specific, perhaps talking about a particular manga, a theme of manga, etc.
Enjoy your stay!

I'm gonna try to help keep this alive, but Batman may show up here soon...
Anyway, I think one topic could maybe be "What makes a Manga good to you?" A little broad, I know, but I'm trying here.
Personally, I'm more inclined to like Manga that concentrate less on the actual art than the story and characters behind it. For example: Naruto is okay, probably one of the better ones out there, but I wouldn't rank it nearly on the top of my list; Ranma 1/2, however, is one of my all-time favorites. Let's face it, Rumiko Takahashi isn't bad, but compared to some of the more art-driven Mangaka out there, he style is very cartoony and simple, not what one would call "intricate." However, Ranma has some of the most well-thought-out characters and relations between them. Every character seems real - they have weaknesses (and not your typical, OMG weaknesses, I'm talking everyday stupid crap like being nearsighted to a fault, or having no sense of directions - Hell, even peeing yourself whenever you see a cat), and you really feel bad for them when things don't go their way.
Another prime example is Love Hina. There's a comic you just can't put down (well, until you hit volume 12 anyway, but until then, you have to fight the urge to read ahead like a lion fights off hyenas). Every one of the characters has angst, and when they go through pain adn sufering you feel it right there with them.
And finally, the almighty God of all Manga, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Eva was a great show, and even better as a comic. The comic is much more character-driven, and all the characters are given a much more human quality to them: Rei not only has a major part, but she also longs to develop a relationship with someone; Shinji, finally getting a backbone, all but falls in love with Rei, who apparently returns his feelings, but being fourteen is too scared and confused to act on these assumptions. Poor Asuka from the beginning feels left out like the foreigner she is. Even Kaji is given an all-too-human quality to himself, identifiying with Shinji more than in the show, explaining that, because of himself, Kaji's friends were killed as children; he believes Shinji, he, and Misato are all the same: because of they didn't act to save those they loved, or were saved because their loved ones gave their lives, they have no right to ever be happy. This theme never came up in the Anime. When Kaworu is introduced, he can't even understand humans' mentallity, and thus causes Shinji to hate him. There's so much pain and human nature corsing through the Eva manga, it's a shame Sadamoto hasn't finished 10 yet, and its been almost a year now. Hopefully, we'll see a conclusion as he sees it, but until then, we're just left with End of Eva to mess with out craniums.

I don't know. Personally I've always enjoyed the subtle differences between the characters in the manga vs the anime. A couple examples for me might be:EmilLang1000 wrote:I'm gonna try to help keep this alive, but Batman may show up here soon...

Ai Yori Aoshi. The characters in the manga have some real frustrations, and at times do things differently than the show. While the show leans more toward juvenile humor, the manga reads more like an easy romance.
Here I wrote aA quick review of the first book
Another one that I wound up liking more than I thought I would was GTO. The chracters were quite different from the show. Reading the manga, and watching the show are at the same time, close enough that you know in general what's about to happen, but also different enough that you wonder how it's going to play out. I have to say that in the show vs the manga you get the feeling that totally different characters are the main love interest, or would make a more ideal pairing.
