Well, there is a small cameo of Death Note in Full Metal Panic: TSR.
Other then that, I heard no news about it becoming an anime series.

AFAIK, there haven't even really been any RUMORS that Death Note would get animated.
Now, I'm a big Death Note fan, especially of the pre-chapter-60 Death Note. *points to avatar* I've had Misa as my avatar for a long time now! But honestly, a huge part of Death Note is the characters thinking to themselves, and I don't really think anything would be gained BY animating it. A large portion of the time, they're sitting around an office, and Light and L are engaged in a battle of wits. What really is there to animate? L eating? Light crossing the room? It just seems to me that for the most part, there wouldn't be any real benefit to animating most of it, if they stayed true to the manga. A few parts would be OK animated, such as when Light and Misa meet, or a few of the more action-y chapters, but for the large portions of introspective, psychological mind games, I see no need for animation. It's fine as a manga, IMO.
