About Naruto's n00b status

Post by arzuro » Sat Nov 05, 2005 8:14 am

It appears that Naruto is the next big thing after Dragon Ball Z, but just because it's just as popular doesn't have to mean it's just as lame. I have to admit that I've never actually seen Naruto as an anime, I merely read a few chapters back when the manga was only available in that form. So what's the reason? Is Naruto laughed upon because it's immensely popular (among kids) or is there some deeper reason?

I dont think that t's so much laughed upon, but simply overpopular. If you think about it, DBZ in its hayday was WAY too overpopular, and now Naruto has pretty much taken over that spot.

I think it has unfortunately been delegated to that status, given that it's the second or third most commonly used anime. Doesn't mean it's not a good show, but it simply gets overused. And many of the videos made with it are pretty generic.

My guess is the reason it is that way is because for many people it's their first anime, just as DBZ was to the previous generation of anime fans.

I can understand that much, but so many things about Dragon Ball Z were extremely embarassing. I mean come on. He has a fighting power of over 40.000! More than forty thousand, oh my god! No he's dead, Goku killed him! Oh right. Dude this enemy guy is blowing up planets! Maybe we should fly through space and use some magical super attack. Or we could merge and raise our power to 100.000! We can do that? Hell yes!

I just don't think it's fair that Naruto gets put in that category.

I've always gotten the impression that it's not the series itself that's laughed at so much as it is the fans of the series, probably because so many of them fall into a certain demographic that doesn't represent itself very well on the 'net. Sure, there are plenty of perfectly non-embarrassing Naruto fans out there, but there's a lot of embarrassing ones too, and because they're embarrassing, they get noticed more.

Oslt. I haven't seen the series myself.

One of the counter to that I've heard is that while DBZ has enemies that are a challenge to Goku (and occasionally kill him), When Naruto's being beaten, he just has to get mad and go into Fox Demon mode, becoming nearly invincible.

Thats so stupid in animes when they make the character unbeatable. Goku would always come back but it never actualy made any sense. In some animes the main character actualy dies ib the end but this is just so predictable its poinltes!!!. I do ocasionaly watch naruto thogh.
I hate school...System of a down is the best.....Anime is great!

A good example of a anime with out the main char being to powerfull is cowboy bebop.

Spike had a ton of people he could never really beat and come out on top with. He ended relying wholly on luck with some of his abilities with winning.

Naruto has awsome animation and the story line is pretty solid. To me what makes it's big downfall is that Naruto has a form where he can't be beaten.

Even with DBA Goku could get the living s*** beat out of him. And if you want to get technical there were times when Goku's ultimate form at teh time couldn't save him. We'll go through them.

Fight against Radditz - Gokou didn't have enough strength to beat Radditz, only piccolo did.
Android 16, 17, and 18- Gokou was to sick and thus couldn't get enough strength to win
Perfect Cell - Even at Gokou's strongest he couldn't win against Perfect Cell. He actually knew it from the time he left the hyperbolic time chamber
Fat Buu - SSJ3 goku wasn't strong enough to beat him
Super Buu- He knew well enough he couldn't beat him without fusion

Really there were a number of times goku's strength couldn't beat people.

So you can't exactly say Goku always came out on top.
