anime are not cartoon

Post by kabez » Sun Nov 20, 2005 11:26 am

I started watching seriously anime about 4 years ago.Now i am 2* years old, and i am still watching.
But, i get really angry when someone tells me phrases like these:
''grow up man!'' ''are you a kid and you are watching these kiddy-silly staff?''.
Or sometimes, is getting worse: ''hey! you are watching anime? That ones porno-cartoons? hahaha!!''
The question is here. How all these people feel that they are able to judge something, that they have never seen. How they say that anime are for kids, if none of them have ever seen Grave of the fireflies,Berserk,Wicked city etc.
The half of people believe that anime are for kids, the others that are sex-toons. O_o !!!
I am saying all these, in order to learn, if that happens only in my country.
I want to know how is the releationship between anime and society in other countries.

I don't think that they think anime is for kids.. but animated features are suppose to be for kids such as cartoons and anime. I like the ones that watch the gory animes and go "who this is awesome!" then when they see adult ones they go off about how it's not real and your not suppose to get excited. For me concepts alone can get me hard, gory shit wether from an anime, video game or real life can get me squeamish.. and drama from a video game, anime and real life can get me emotional as well. When people say I'm not suppose to like an anime cause I'm 22, I go tell them to screw themselves.

Im 18 and I only started watching anime a few years ago, well really I started with pokemon and sailor moon back when I was like 9 but I dont count that because I stopped watching any anime until I was 16 or so.

Now I have this shoulder bag that says "ANIME: crack is cheaper" Im sure many of you have seen it, But when people see this they laugh cuz "anime is for kids" (the old ladys think its cute...) I also draw/ sketch anime characters in class and EVERYTIME someone sees me drawing they say "oh is she from sailor moon?"   NO!! there is more anime in the world than sailor moon and pokemon!!! They dont even mention digimon and no one knows what Yu-gi-oh is, no ones heard of Inuyasha, or card captors, or Naruto. They play these ON TV during the day, does no one watch TV anymore?!
I go to the cons too so Im an "anime nerd" at my school cuz Im like the only one!! I cosplayed as Kanna from IY for halloween (easy one right?) 3 people of 1500+ knew what anime I was from, no one knew her name.

So yea, same shit in Canada man. If you like anime and are over the age of 12, theyre going to make fun of you.

I'm 17 and my parents (especially my father) keep telling me that I'd better stop watching Anime because I'm not a kid anymore... I've never listened to them and I never will... they don't even know what anime are... I think that's common in all Western countries (I'm from Italy) but anyway I don't mind what people think of anime and of me... I'll keep watching them until something new is produced in Japan and I'd like to say to all the anime-fans out there that they should be proud of themselves because they don't follow the flock of sheep!

I get a lot too. On my work i needed to try out something with a beamer (i'm one of the few really technical people around there) and hooked it up to my laptop. I have a SaiKano background on it, and when i got it working people were commenting on the background on my laptop. Saying things like "Isn't that one of those images from those stupid kidsshows, why do you have that as your background?" and more ignorant stuff like that. I just ignore them since with an attitude like that they'll never understand how good anime can be. SaiKano is my favorite series, simply because it's so involving and a fantastic story.
I'm not even going to explain it to the people at work, since they just will never get it.

I do what i like, and i like what i like. No matter how much people will look down on me, i won't change. This is the life i lead and these are the things i like. They can live with that and accept it, or they can just shove their ignorant oppinion up their ***. I just refuse to care.
