Why Hellsing is anything like Trigun?

Post by Chaos Angel » Thu Nov 14, 2002 6:54 pm

I don't remember where I read this, but I once read a review of Hellsing that said it was like "Vampire Hunter D mixed with Trigun", or something similar to that. Now, I've seen Trigun and most of Hellsing. (I now own discs 1-3, and I saw most of the last episode in my anime club last year), and I don't really see much resemblance from one to the other, except for Alucard's red trenchcoat, which does call to mind Vash, but other than that, I see no resemblance between the two. Any thoughts on what would prompt someone to say that the two are anything alike?

Out of everything, Arucard's glasses, coat and gun are about the same as Vash's. The guns are very similar, as all 3 guns (Arucard's two guns and Vash's gun) are modified versions of the .454 Long Colt gun. The coats are similar, and the glasses are similar.

Anything other than Alucard's general wardrobe? I'm thinking no.

You're right, there's not really anything to connect the two. Someone was just looking for an easy way to explain it.

The overall tone of the two series' is nothing alike. Not to mention Alucard is friggin' insane (but that's cool 8)) and Vash isn't.
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.

I say they are 2 sides of the protagonist coin
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Kthulhu's quick firearms quip:

The .45 Long Colt is a caliber of bullet, not a model of gun, per se. Firearms from other manufacturers besides Colt fire it. There is no .454 Long Colt, although there is a .454 Casull caliber out there (slightly more powerful than a typical .45, and somewhat common nowadays). Neither .45 Long or .454 Casull bullets are fired from automatic pistols (of course, anything is possible in anime :D ). There is a .45 caliber that is designed for automatic pistols (the .45 ACP), but it's not as good as the Long or Casull calibers.

Anyhow, this brings us on topic. Vash has a revolver, and fires the .45 Long caliber. Alucard, on the other hand, probably fires the .454 Casull, in an auto pistol form, not whatever bumfuck caliber designation the series' designers made up. There is a firearms difference, at least. Glasses and coat are somewhat the same, though.
I'm out...

Vandread and Trigun is NOTHING alike.

You cant compare anime to each other just by similarities.

That's like saying Love hina is the same as Evangelion because Kintaro and Shinji Akari look almost alike.

Each Anime (or most) has a story that it wants to tell. The characters develop over time (or episodes) and you learn to love or hate them.

You cant resemple and anime because of the looks.

If you want to resemble anime you have to look at things like story, characters, time space, methods of completeing tasks and much more.

That's what I think.

Cheers vir eers.

They are making a Season 2 in Japan currently. I would imagine it'll be here in about a year or two.

But that's just my estimation, and it's mostly a guess.
