For all of you DBZ fans

Post by older_gohan » Fri Feb 10, 2006 7:39 pm

Well it would seem that the stories are false. I understand quite a few have already stated that the Dragonball Z live action movie is never taking place or has been thrown away by Fox. Here is the low down on the Dragonball Z live action movie.

In the recent issue of anime insider they provided a few articles on different live action movies that are still being produced or are planned for the near future. Neon Genisis Evangelion, Astro-boy, and one other are among the different titles stated.

They did give a paragraph on the DBZ live action. Fox has not dropped the project. I will say this once more, fox has not dropped the project. Due to casting difficulties and recent movies wich took head position, they had to postpone the production of the movie. There is still no tentative release date but Fox is still planning on making the movie.

Neon Genisis Evangelion the Live Action movie has hit some rough spots considering the movie itself will take 120 million to produce. The company Producing the movie has raised half of the 120 million.

So there's a tid bit of news for you.

Any links to first-hand press reports? Or is this all he-said, she-said internet rumors?

if they do make an Eva movie that actually sticks to the shows style makes me wonder who it'll piss off.

The report is from the anime insider magazine. You can buy it at any wal-mart. They don't publish old issues on the net so you'll have to see it there. They talked with one of the exsec's at Fox and that's what they said concerning the movie.

I can only see it now, like all movies, something stupid will be done like having some 20 year olds playing as 14 year olds. than do some sexy scenes that are completly pointless.

In their defense, bear in mind actual 14 year olds in some of the scenes from EVA could get pretty dicey (example: The scene where Shinji accidentally winds up grabbing Rei's breast. That's one thing in animation...in live-action...that tends to become kind of a whole other ballpark.)

They'll probably up their ages to 16, which is a little more acceptable in America, especially for the stuff that's going on. As for the content of the movie itself, considering ADV and, if I remember correctly, GAINAX are in on the project, I think they'll forego the un-needed fanservice and stick to the more serious, end-of-humanity themes about the story.

thats the second thing thats gonna piss off some people, with all the religious references and so on, especially the Ned Flanders types of people, which makes it exciting for this to come out.

Considering it's being made for a Western audience, Gainax might attempt to tone down the religion (they did admit that, had they known EVA would be released over here, they prob. would have tried to find something other than Christianity to make the story unique.)

I don't think it'll really be all that necessary. Considering, Eva had much more to do with Judaism than Christianity; and when you look at some of the movies that have come out recently that would fit Evas demographics, they're right in line - Constantine, Kingdom of Heaven, you could even say Passion of the Christ... it does prove that people will still go see Jesus flicks.
