Character Study: Sasuke Uchiha

Spoilers ahead, people, spoilers ahead.... Only reply if you've seen the most recent of Naruto...

Firstly, let me say that I love the Naruto manga with hate. It's like 'Nu!' but then the manga goes 'Yes!' and I end up reading it. Plus I wuv Shikamaru. *heart* The anime I don't like too much (sub or dub).

Now that I've said that, please understand that I love Naruto. It's a great universe. Kishimoto, while screwing up a few times, has a great idea going on. All except for one thing: Sasuke Uchiha. Self insert, anyone? Kishimoto himself has said that he views himself as Sasuke, that Sasuke is the cloest personality to him.

Accordingly, a lot of people will like Sasuke just 'cause he's Kishimoto's favorite character. Others love Sasuke 'cause of his moodiness and his dark looks. Still, some fangirls go so far as to read/watch the entire series, build up Sasuke into someone that he's not (ie: An honorable individual). Truthfully, I am sickened by him, so are other Naruto lovers.

So this begs the quesion: Is Sasuke Uchiha worth the fangirlness? Is he something more than just the stereotypical brooding persona? Is Sasuke truly as selfless as the fangirls say he is?

Personally, I think he's a waste of life. Sure, he had begun to open up to Team 7, and perhaps he would've turned out to be an okay guy. But no. His hatred for his brother clouds EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING. It's like, he has a super sweet pad but NUUUUUU, he has to be obsessed with this brother.

Granted, the death of your entire clan is pretty tramautic, but look at GAARA. Everyone he knew was out to kill him, he even killed his uncle who claimed that he 'loved' him! Yet through the magic of Naruto, Gaara's turning out to be an alright guy.

Anyway, but down to it, Sasuke is selfish. Not only does he leave the entire village to become a missing-nin, he only views Naruto as a friend when it's convienant for him. "Oh! I just remember, to become as strong as my brother, I'm gonna hafta kill you, biatch!" despite having, what, a good year or 6 months of getting into a relationship with him! (not that kind)

And then he completely ignores Sakura until he needs her. Example: At the Chuunin exams, he only really gave her a compliment when EVERYONE was looking. Sasuke only acknowledges people when they are useful to him. He also didn't think much of Orochimaru until he learned he could get more power.

So, what do yins think? Anyone here believe that Sasuke is a selfless individual? Or is he just a brat with a sweet pad?

i never saw his place, but more importantly.... you have to keep in mind he's just a dopey kid no matter how you look at it. secondly he's a male, and as we all know, anime guys always keep a grudge no matter what while a girl will only do their naughtiness out of the love for someone, so i wouldn't blame him completely, look at Ryuho and Vegeta, they both have a nice girl thats all over them, but they obsess over some guy because of something stupid, and besides, Sakura could give him alittle space to breathe....sheesh

Indeed about Sakura. While she was 11, it was cool. You got to see exactly how an 11 year old would act- totally mad crazy for Sasuke.

But after he flippin' LEAVES Konoha and pretty much abandons his country for HIMSELF, you'd think she'd get the idea. But no. Kishimoto holds back ANY form of character development by making her remain as Sasuke's little fangirl.

He might be a dopey kid, but what I wanna know is why so many flippin' fangirls go ga-ga over him.

oh ok, its mainly because he's a young Vegeta, has a negative attitude, but his has its own special charm to it that makes him special, which makes him seem all mature and stuff while naturally being the harder fighter who doesn't use words to fight and is very careful in a fight which would make him really smooth and slick if he was a bad guy like Sesshoumaru, which makes all the girls love him for that very reason.

Mature my ass! If he was mature, he wouldn't continue to view Naruto as below him. He ONLY considered Naruto a 'rival' when it was convieniant for him.

He's not bad ass or slick either. He's just a greedy, self centered bitch. XD And I like how you're the only one defending him. Where are all the fangirls, ha ha!

Pff Sasuke is a big pile of sh!t in my opinion. He's so steriotypical as someone mentioned. In fact the only good characters are as follows:

Shikamaru: Why? Because he uses so much strategy and knowledge BEFORE he goes and does something. EVen when the situation gets a little sticky he comes up with a brilliant plan i.e. facing that girl in the chuunin exam when he did all that crazy shit with the kunai and parachute and shadows and all that.

Rock Lee Wow, ok. Let's see here, he started off crap, he had nothing special about him except for 1 thing- extreme determination Rock Lee is a role model, I don't care if he's a cartoon character, his morals are perfect and he is waht every kid should be. A hard working person who is polite and always looks to improve without EVER giving up.

also many more but i'm too lazy to type them all out, just the main ones for now.

Now you may ask yourself, yea that's all great and stuff but what teh hell does that have to do with Sasuke?!

What i'm trying to say here is that the 2 characters taht I mentioned have something that is extremely useful. Sasuke is just a jealous freak who wants more power when he was already born with an advanced blood line. I mean guys like Rock Lee and Shikamaru had to develop what they had today, and guys like Sasuke are just stupid EMOS..yes I said it ladies and gents, Sasuke is a whiny emo punk.

i was defending him? hmm, my mistake, let my clarify what i meant, all my knowledge about him is so far by what iv'e seen on TV. now then, i went for the slick part by the way he always up's Naruto in front of everyone to get the girls attention and smooth by not blushing like others would do. and the mature part was how he doesnt get all loud like Naruto and pretty much tries to act grown, which wouldn't make any real sense since Sakura does the same while having her visible thoughts do the talking for her.

Ok I'll join in.

Good points:
He's the heir of a powerful bloodline trait, to a family that has served and protected the Hidden country for generations.
He has the Mental fortitude to train endlessly until his objectives are complete.
He is (apparently) good looking, and thus will be able to get a date with the girls around him.
Given his tendency for control and self dominance he is unlikely to become an easy pawn for a powerful snake obsessed character to control easily.
He can learn any technique simply by looking at it. This means that the longer he's in circulation the more powerful he will become.
He is able to directly combat the power of Naruto's Kitsune Fox demon, without using a summoned creature. (remember, the Hokage had to use Mr. Giant frog and died in the process to do something similar, Gaara has a similar demon, thus canceling it out)
He's apparently smart enough to think and plan.

Bad points:
He's an asshole
He will play with the feelings of people that care for him to accomplish his own goals.
He's chosen the dark side of the force... or something
His ultimate power comes from someone else and is fatal to use for prolonged periods.
He is following the same path to power and corruption that his brother took.
He really isn't good looking, people just tell him that he is. In reality they are laughing at his gay socks and wrist warmers.
He's smart enough to know that he's in over his head, but instead of asking for help tries to kill the person most likely to help him.
He totally ditched Sakura, who was obviously crazy about him and would have probably 'put out'. Dumbass.
His lines in the show really sucked.
He was actually fairly worthless, since it was always someone else that actually finished off the opponents, or gave him the 'courage' to go on.
He totally pussed out at the giant snake in the jungle during the exams... repeat during the naruto gaara battle... etc.
His character sucks... and he's an asshole to those around him.

Mitigating Circumstances..
He's had his whole clan, and everyone that he cared for slaughtered by the person that he looked up to.
He didn't exactly choose to get the Poison Hickey from Snakemaru.
Sakura can be a real pain in the ass 'sausuke this sasuke that..'
It must suck being stuck in a crew with a dumbass that constantly beats you because the plot demands that he be the one to do it in spite of all your hard work and training. (" Oh, hey it's cool that you didn't just train for 5 years to learn something because you can just use your fox power to save the day instead".)
Listening to everyone tell him to 'get over' the horrible slaughter in his past would piss me off too.

you forgot to mention that he's a big fat cheater, while Sakura is there frying her brain on the written exam, he's all like "haha! ill use my sharigan eye to copy this dufus ahead of me even though he may be a complete dumbass that cant write his own name haha!".

isn't that like abusing power or something?
