Post by greenrider85 » Sun Feb 19, 2006 12:17 pm

i just finished watching the escaflowne series. was wondering is the movie a condensed version of it, or is it separate?

Whole different telling of the story...a lot of elements changed around (for example, Dilandau's...er...colorful history isn't in the movie.)

I was under the impression that the movie was precursor to the series itself.

No, there are three versions of Escaflowne: The Manga version, the Anime, and the Movie. The Movie and the Anime are pretty similar in some respects, whereas the Manga is way out in left field compared to the show.

I enjoyed the movie, but I know alot of people who hated it, because their favorite characters got changed etc. (I for one enjoy seeing a different take on things, though)

Technically four. There are two manga versions; The shonen version (which is REALLY out of whack. Dilandau is pretty much Micheal Jackson reincarnated) and then the shoujo version (which isn't much better).

While the anime and movie are somewhat simliar, they aren't similiar enough. The movie has beautiful animation, but the plot is so so while the show has okay animation but a great plot.
