A French/Japanese production, Oban Star-Racers

Post by angelx03 » Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:26 pm

Here's an interesting and rather unique anime series to check out. I got the source of the synopsis here.
Every 10.000 years, the greatest pilots in the universe face-off in a mysterious and mythical race: the Great Race of Ōban. It is said the outcome of the competition will radically transform the balance of power within our Galaxy...

On Earth, Eva 15 is determined to be reunited with her father, race manager Don Wei, who sent her off to boarding school ten years ago. She joins his famous star-racer team under the alias “Molly”.

Before she knows what is happening, "Molly" takes off for the planet Alouas, first stage of the Great Race of Ōban, with champion pilot Rick Thunderbolt and gunner Jordan. The fate of Molly and her friends, as well as the future of the human race, are now inextricably intertwined…
Animation is done by the French peeps of Sav! along with Hal Film Maker (Kaleido Star, Pretear). Music is done by the infamous Taku Iwasaki (Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, Getbackers) with episode director by Kiyoko Sayama (Pretear, Angel Sanctuary). More staff info can be found in ANN, and according to this, it's dubbed by the Ocean Group.

The official French website is found here, and do check out the opening sequence in the video section. The music is done by the awesomeness of Yoko Kanno! 8-)

It already premiered in Toon Disney's Jetix last week though according to Toon Zone, half hour episodes will premiere every Monday on 8:00 PM on Toon Disney and every Saturday on 10:30 PM on ABC Family (DO check your listings since it may vary like where I live :? ).

According to the peeps who already saw it, they said it was virtually uncut, and Taku Iwasaki's original BGM score is left intact. The bad news is that Jetix cut out the orginal OP and ED sequences and made their own; bastards! :x

I've been waiting for this damn thing for years! Image

I hope it's worth the wait. So far I've only seen the old 2001 trailer with Ayumi Hamasaki music. The current RealMedia (bleh) trailer on their site doesn't play well for me.

Oh wait...

I've seen bits and pieces if the episodes but it seems interesting.

On side note of the anime.

Wait, this show looks good. If that really is the case, then what is it doing on Toon Disney?! Meh, I got digital cable so I'll watch it on there. Hopefully it's not too kiddy.
