American Anime vs. Japanese Anime
Is American anime even considered anime? The reason I'm asking is I'm going to try to make an AMV and I might use American anime, but if I did would I be stoned and strung up by my neck?
I wouldn't use American cartoons, just some of the wanna-be anime(I've seen a few that aren't too bad).

Re: American Anime vs. Japanese Anime
you cannot make music videos here using anykind of american animation.. you could use some parts but most of the scenes must use japanese anime.. and any animation outside of japan is not considered anime.. so to answer your question.. noegggy wrote:Is American anime even considered anime? What this site really wants is JAPANIMATION, not simply Anime. While the two are GENERALLY synonyms, a debate over their natures showed that, by means of definitions in Webster's New World Collegiate Dictionary, Anime is a genre or style, while Japanimation is a specific group of animated films, TV shows, etc, within the Anime genre. Still, Japanimation Music Videos just doesn't role off the tongue as well, so git 'er done.

Correct. Anime covers wide variety of different shows from different countries which all fall under a certain genre. This sit solely wants Japanese Anime although you may include other anime's which aren't Japanamation.
And like emilang said already anime is not soley restricted to japan and what it produces.
So to answer your questions:
American Anime is anime.
You can use some but you have to have 50% of it still Japanese anime.
And yes people will lose their cool if you try and tell them that American Anime is actually anime.

...Uh, that's no different from Chinese restaurants in the US or Indian restaurants in the UK, but whatever.devilmaykickass wrote:"American Anime" is like saying "Mexican Chowmein"
"American animation after a Japanese style" seems fair, IMO. Explain what you're talking about more specifically and people will give you the answer: No, not here. You can make it if you want, but you can't rightfully host or list it here because the lines have been drawn in a particular place. That's all. Many people will help to point you to alternatives for hosting if you like.
And if otaku get their authentic Rei Ayanami panties in a wad about it, don't take it personally. They need something to bitch about. It's an addiction. Just keep cool.
