Hellsing: Is there more than one?
I've looked around for ananswer, but have found nothing.
In some of the Hellsing videos like the one to Das Omen or the Video Alucard's Dream the animation is even more upscale. Scenes seem to happen differently in slight ways as well.

So my question; is there some version of the Hellsing series or maybe a movie that I don't know about?
Is it a TV vs OVA thing because the differences to the story seem little, but artistically staggering?[/url]

you're probably thinking of the new series: Hellsing ova (or whatever it's called).

I've only seen the first one. The artwork is nicer, but the story seems to be somewhat more crudely done. Lots more raep comedy, presumably for those that find that funny.

The TV show is more "realistic" than the OVA, though the animation isn't as good.
The OVA on the other hand, is much more stylized - following the graphic novel's style of character designs. The animation though is smooth and sickingly wonderful.
If what you're describing is animation where the outlines are much thicker and the character designs are in a more grotesque style (grotesque meaning the artistic sense, i.e. disproportional eyes, hands, etc.) then that's the OVA, also known as Hellsing Ultimate.

i think the OVA is pretty much the serries re-drawn, with the story slightly different.
someone in my studio is doing an amv to the OVA version.
the people producing the original serries ran out of money by the end of the first season.

I thought it might be the OVA.
More crudely done? How So? Looked about the same.
Granted I thought the splattering of the vampire preist to the cross was better than shooting him outside, but I like the darker animation. Odd really I'm not much for hollywood style vampires (bats and stuff), but the cast of characters is interesting. (good voice actors for the main characters too.)
(I only guessed at a possible movie since that happens a lot with animation differences between movies, short series, and TV series. Everything from DBZ to Samurai X. Makes a mess of an AMV when people combine such different qualities.)

This is kind of a necro, but I had a similar question and didn't think it justified a new topic.
I've noticed in various AMVs (most recently, Tsukin's : Bleed the Sky) and even on the back of the Hellsing: Impure Souls case, there is a scene where Seras is just about to lick blood off of a knife (I assume it's one of Alexander's blades). The only time something like this could happen would be the third episode on that DVD (Sword Dancer, I think?)
I've watched my DVD of this several times, thinking that perhaps I missed it. But that scene is NOT on my version. WTF? I bought the box set from Amazon (not the market place, the actual Amazon version).
I wonder what else I could be missing...

The story's not too different at this point in the OVA, but since it's slated to actually follow the manga, it will get very different, trust me.Minion wrote:i think the OVA is pretty much the serries re-drawn, with the story slightly different.

Well, to be fair, they're trying to cover a lot more ground in less time. IIRC, the first OVA episode covers the entire first volume of manga, as well as some of the content from the second, and the second episode covers about 2/3 of the second volume. All of this in a one-hour episode. So it's not surprising the story's a little underdeveloped at first. I imagine they don't want to linger too much on stuff the first Hellsing series covered pretty well.madbunny wrote:I've only seen the first one. If this the scene I think it is, it's not in the actual episodes, it's only in the opening credits. So you're probably not missing anything.DocturKnowles wrote:I've noticed in various AMVs (most recently, Tsukin's : Bleed the Sky) and even on the back of the Hellsing: Impure Souls case, there is a scene where Seras is just about to lick blood off of a knife (I assume it's one of Alexander's blades). That is probably one of the scenes in the OAV trailer. It's on the Impure Souls DVD, labelled as "trailer music video" or something like that.DocturKnowles wrote:This is kind of a necro, but I had a similar question and didn't think it justified a new topic.
