Aishiteru ze Baby (Love you Baby)
(maybe this can be moved into the Anime Series discussion, I couldn't find a link in there 'cause I'm 3/4 blind)
Love you baby Review: *SPOILER ALERT*
I've seen a few anime in my time and I've started to watch many of the subbed
Japanese TV series available which can really get addictive. Addiction, however,
can be a painful girlfriend especially if who you're addicted to reeks of dead
fish and rotten beef.
Aishiteru ze Baby ( Love You Baby ) has such an aroma and a taste that could leave you dashing to pray to the porcelain god. However shall I describe something as such?
First, lets find out what other names could be associated with this anime:
1: How to fondle a girl in 2 easy dates.
2: Emotional robots and how they get the girls.
3: Don't worry about the kid, eventually she'll end up in the system.
4: Raising kids the Kippei way without getting arrested.
5: Leave it to irresponsibility.
6: Cute girls and the idiots they love.
7: Let's make a deal (the family planning edition)
8: You'll understand when YOU have kids (and that's no lie)
9: My family is less screwed up than yours.
10: Death wish: How to let a 14 year old on suicide watch look after your kid.
Now, I don't know if the way they planned this anime is based on Japanese culture,
values or just plain writers block, raising a child is not a light responsiblity.
The whole story revolves around a 5 year old girl (Yuzuyu) who has been abandoned by her mother in a fit of depression after the passing of her husband (How Yuzuyu managed to get to the Katagura family is another thing that I don't know). The Katagura family takes Yuzuyu into their care. The next thing puzzles me, the entire family; grandparents, parents and siblings decide that the person to take care of Yuzuyu is to be Kippei, a 17 year old failure as a student who goes to
school for the simple pleasure of groping girls, skipping or sleeping though class
and being a social playboy. This kid has never been in any situation that requires
him to look after a damn cockroach. Which brings me to the 99 degree mark.
Now, during this whole anime, Yuzuyu loves and adores Kippei, Kippei, slowly starts attaching his feelings to her and pretty much starts acting more responsible... not after abandoning her no less than 3 times, neglecting to call his home to make sure that someone picks Yuzuyu up from kindergarten, falling asleep in a stairwell at school and non-chalantly heads out to pick her up 2 hours late and among other things staying after class to spend some kissing time with Kokoro (we will get to her a bit later) who has to remind him that he has to pick Yuzuyu up at least twice during the anime. Which brings me to the 100.5 degree mark.
Now, for the family. The grandparents just like the fact that there's activity in
the house. The father of the family slinks away from any commitment and, come to think of it, I don't even know if he exists. The mom wishes to help more but seems to be pulled back by some invisible force that the oldest sister has over her.
Sister criticizes Kippei at every turn and even demeans him in front of Yuzuyu;
that really helps *sarcasm*. As for the youngest member, 12 year old Satsuki, he
is as emotional as a robot going through routing math equations. Not only does he
totally ignore Yuzuyu, but when forced to help her out, pretty much doesn't notice
her around unless she speaks. Which will bring me to his girlfriend whom we will
talk about a bit later. This brings me to 101.8 degrees and I'm feeling pretty ill
by now.
Kokoro.... Kokoro, oh poor Kokoro. SHE was the strongest character in the entire
anime until she gets to fall for Mr Idiot, Kippei. At the start, she has a strong
sense of worth, doesn't take poop from anyone and doesn't cater to anyone and their whims. Then, in under one episode, turns into a bimbo, letting Kippei take
advantage of her and fondle her too. As she says, it makes her calmer being
stupid. This is where I throw up and miss the toilet.
Kubata, Satsuki's "girlfriend", a young, tall girl who is a model for various ads
for fruit drinks and such. She likes, Satsuki, Satsuki doesn't care. She has
the waivering voice and blushy skin when he's around, Satsuki, doesn't give a fig.
Kubata, goes out of her way to try and get Satsuki to notice him, Satsuki basically
tells her: "Oh, well, I'll be taller than you soon." Why are anime girls so... bah, nevermind!
Oh, and what about Yuzuyu's mom? Well, since she abandoned her without telling
anyone, she wanders around Japan looking for something, something to fill the void in her life so she can stop crying and become a real mother to her child. THROW HER INTO COUNSELLING!!!!!!! Isn't it free in Japan anyway? I faint at this
point. I managed to watch the rest of the anime in a haze of confusion and numbness.
Now, to the one and only redeeming part of this show. One thing only came out with truth that resounds as strong as Buddhist Temple bells. One sentence from Kippei.
Kippei: "I try to respond to Yuzuyu's feelings..."
Oh! My! God! That is probably the one and most important thing in raising a child
these days and he managed to understand it on his own! With this message out
there, and the person he speaks with hears this and some light turns on in her
head, I thought; this is now going to get better because he "gets" it. Not 2
minutes later, maybe more, he responds to Yuzuyu's feelings by denying them.
Yuzuyu: I want my mom to stop hating me.
Kippei: You're mom doesn't hate you.
Most of the people reading this will say: "But that's what you have to tell her."
Well, no, it's not the correct response, here, Kippei is telling her that what she
feels is not valid and would make many kids frustrated that what they have just
said was not listened to. So, her feelings were denied. He could have done this
instead:
Acknowledge the feeling by telling her what he sees: Yuzuyu, I can see that you
feel sad thinking that.
Tell a story about her past (the picture reference I'm quoting is in the anime):
I've been looking at the pictures of you and your mom, and in all those pictures,
your mom looks like she loves you soooo much. She hugs you and kisses you too.
At this point most kids perceptions mostly melt away, replaced by some more
dialogue like "really?" "Can I see those when we get home?"
In the case of this anime, Kippei and Kokoro manage to attach themselves closely to Yuzuyu and Yuzuyu becomes happy. What they will have trouble with, if it ever goes to a 2nd season (pray that it doesn't, the anime could be 6 years old by now, I don't know) will be how to remove the attachment between them.
Abruptly I will end this, if you have read through this entire rant, well, I'm glad
I managed to keep your attention.
This is on my "Not recommended" list.

I completely disagree with this oppinion. I loved this anime it made me cry etc. I know that sounds gay but we are talking about an anime for girls and I'm watching it so that makes me sexually confused. Anyway yuzu is hot. The only problem with this series was the ending. It leaves you wanting more.
I give it 4 stars out of 5.

Well, I will agree that Yuzu is the only character that basically is as close to a real person as possible and I will tell you that some anime have left me with some serious throat lumping action (Air, Kiki's, Angelic Layer and Junkers come Here). My problem was with the entire obsurdity of the situations and, being a parent myself, couldn't help but pound my fist in frustration and the anger I felt when the girls put out so easily by calling it "playing".Mroni wrote:I completely disagree with this oppinion. I feel very fearful for my daughters if they watch this one. An anime based for girls that is a bit higher in standards would be Bokura Ga Ita which I will lambaste at a later date.
Which reminds me of something I read and I'll just put it out there as a kind of quote. Teenage girls and guys are in the "sex without commitment" phase nowadays because of what we parents tell them. "Education comes first, love comes later." So, teens that are interested in each other are more prone to just hook-up rather than looking for a meaningful relationship because of the fear that a relationship will hinder their future.

Oh, and thanks for the reply!

I think those girls that were playing with kipi were just that they liked to kiss him etc but I didnt get the impression that they were having sex with him. They even said it was just playing and you could'nt count on him for anything serious which is why they kept warning kokoro about him. I think that show was made for girls in japan with a big brother fetish. I'm reading the manga right now to see if it has a different ending I want Yuzu's Mama to come back to her.

I don't think that I meant that the girls had sex with him, by mentioning "playing" as a social cupping passtime and the fact that it's so easy to put your hand under a girl's shirt is still a piss-off for me; especially how quickly Kokoro let him play with her cups. Still shows that Kippei had no real respect for her other than a physical attraction and she still put up with it.
As for a "big brother fetish"... eww x 10 !
