FUNimation gets ONE PIECE
http://www.animeonline.com/index.php?pa ... _id=101234
Apparently this is not a hoax, late April Foo's joke, or something similar. FUNimation DOES have One Piece, and is bringing it back in August. Newly dubbed of course.
FUNi rep at Toonzone even confirmed it.

I love this show, and can't wait to get me some Uncut DVD box sets.

While I was never able to get into One Piece for whatever reason, I want to congratulate those who are on the salvation of your fandom. Whether we side with ninjas or pirates, we can all agree that 4Kids blows goats and it's always good to see a beloved anime put into the hands of people who know what they're doing with it.

Wow.
I'm not a huge fan, but this is great news for those that are. I've been following the TV broadcasts off and on (the changes that 4Kids did turned me off occasionally). I'll probably check this new version on Cartoon Network first before fully committing to it.
But compared to the hack job that 4Kids did, even based on what the initial indications are for Funimation's TV version, a Dragon Ball/DBZ-type adaptation is a giant leap forward.
At least now I can get decent uncut DVDs for a One Piece AMV idea I have.

FUNi stopped doing "DBZ adaptations" a long time ago, they keep all the animes they get now surprisingly very accurate to the originals. I'm betting it'll be very accurate to the original.Willen wrote:Wow.

Going from what the article states, most likely they'll try to get away with as little changes for the TV broadcast as possible. A more accurate comparison would be to Naruto's US TV adaptation. Less blood, the more gory scenes gut or edited, no smoking, etc. Unfortunately, since the 4Kids version established certain things, Funimation is a little limited to how much change they make to the TV version. Like Sanji will still have a lollipop, Smoker will probably still not smoke and his name will stay as Chaser, etc.Cornwiggle wrote:FUNi stopped doing "DBZ adaptations" a long time ago, they keep all the animes they get now surprisingly very accurate to the originals. At least the DVDs will be uncut with proper names (based on the Viz manga naming), all the episodes (eventually), and original music.

Hmm, I think they'll use all the original names, I just have a feeling. As for using the lollipop, if they did that they'd have to use the 4Kids footage or do it themselves...editing out a cigarette is a lot easier than drawing a lolipop.Willen wrote:Going from what the article states, most likely they'll try to get away with as little changes for the TV broadcast as possible. The producer for the TV version in the interview mentioned that for continuity sake and because it's a little easier, Sanji is keeping the lollipop. Yeah, sometimes it's easier to take out the cigarette, but usually it's easier to overlay the candy part of the lollipop onto the video.Cornwiggle wrote:Hmm, I think they'll use all the original names, I just have a feeling. "continuity" shouldn't count if it comes from 4Kids. For name changes if they can't use "Smoker" they should at least think up something better than "Chaser". Making him suck on 4 popsicles and calling him "Minty Juice" would be better than Chaser.Willen wrote:The producer for the TV version in the interview mentioned that for continuity sake and because it's a little easier, Sanji is keeping the lollipop.
