Anime that has a total different feeling than most anime.

Looking for anime movies/series that has it's own formula and doesn't just copy the rest. I'm talking about innovative, kinda like some would call the wii. Taking risks and not conventional, and feels very eccentric when placed next to most other anime..

Examples of this would be cat soup and most studio C work.

Are you looking for unusual or just eccentric titles? There's a pretty obvious distinction there :P

I mean hey, something like Monster is very different-feeling from most anime, but if we assume your Wii parallel to relate to PS3, then Monster is to most anime what a PC is to a PS3.

Otherwise, Dead Leaves is pretty wack.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

all good, I just want it different. unique animation, original art style mainly, and maybe a unique story.. but I'm mainly looking for something that just looks different. An anime that is just over all unusual is also something I'd like to see.

Monster is a good mention. Now I don't know one anime that is like that one. When I mentioned wii, I meant in the way of it doing something different than the rest of the developers is all

I was thinking of a hentai that seemed different than most called Iyashite Agerun Saiyuki, and then I typed in this thread right afterwards on a whim. I could of just did some searches on google and found a list, a thread talking about it or whatever. But I was in the anime forum so thought I'd type up the request really quick. Is cool right? Thanks for the suggestions. If anyone else has any, I would appreciate it a lot if you could share. Thanks.

I checked out some clips of this, and now I want to buy it but it's out of print and on top of that it's R2. Do you know if this was released anywhere else besides Japan and if it's possible to find the Japan R2 version somewhere? This is the same problem with Noiseman Sound Insect. Where on Earth could I find these titles?

I came across an R2 of Angel's Egg several years ago and foolishly passed it by. All we can do is hope it gets back in print (it happens). Maybe someone on eBay is selling a copy.

Something very different, cg anime, Malice@Doll. Another with strange stories is Petshop of Horrors.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Come and join us on the tiny but fun forum at http://www.allanime.org

While the animation style isn't terribly different (esp. if you're familiar with old school animes.) The storyline for Legend of the Galactic Heroes is VERY much in contrast to a lot of the anime plots, especially for its time.

Battles aren't intense personal duels, but large scale combat of battleships slugging it out...becoming less a matter of power, more a matter of tactical prowess.
The story focuses heavily on politics (the more I look at Reinhard's story arc, the more I wonder if he was a partial influence on Kentarou Miura's creation of Griffith during the Golden Age section of Berserk.)
and, most surprisingly, the motifs. The Empire is set up with a VERY strong feeling of old world Europe (Germany primarily.) On the other side of the coin, the Free Planets' Alliance is comprised of any number of races, but, predominantly Caucasians (the most notable exception being the protagonist for the Alliance's story, the Chinese Yang Wen-Li)
So far there hasn't been a single Japanese character to be seen.
On the one hand it has some of the classic anime trademarks...but at the same time, it never seems to succumb to the stereotypes therein.

...kind of an odd sell I admit, but still worth looking into (after enough eps it feels less like watching an anime, more like reading a western sci-fi novel.)

Haibane Renmei, that is a little weird, that's for sure.
After having watched it i was like: there happend a lot, but then again there happend nothing :?
I find it kind of funny, i find it kind of sad, the dream in which i'm dying is the best i ever had...
