After watching episode 2 and 3, I'll have to say that this is without a doubt, one of the saddest series of stories I have ever seen. The ending especially left me wondering where this story was going? How would such a life continue and end? Will they move on? It seems that perhaps Akari has, but the Takaki hasn't. And Kanae, where are you?

I think the main questions this anime provokes are the questions of "can we keep our youthful promises?" "can our love/relationship survive the test of time and distance?" And perhaps most importantly, "can we move on when nothing we do will change things?" And maybe, just maybe, a look at our lives, "is this really how life may occur?"
