Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Season 2 (?)

So, I don't know if this has already been discussed before or not.

Anyway, here goes: Wikipedia states that a second season of Suzumiya Haruhi has been announed and a trailer follow. Now I have watched the trailer and it seems like a weird one.

Anyway, Animenewsnetwork.com clearly states this:

There are currently false reports, sometimes attributed to Anime News Network, that there is a trailer for season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. There is no such trailer, and no information available about a possible season 2. This hoax maliciously linked to an automated banning script that ANN uses for maintenance purposes, the script has been disabled until it can be retooled so that it can no longer be abused in this manner.

Basically my question is simple: Can we expect a season two or not? I hope so, but now I'm beginning to have my doubts.


Sorry if I'm way behind and that everyone else already knew it was a hoax or something like that.

And yes, it just occured to me how pointless and unconstructive that was.

I believe that there will be a second season not only because it has been stated on wiki (which god knows can be unreliable) but it has already created such a huge fanbase for itself, it would seem like a huge waste to just drop it and leave it as it is.

Of course, there is always the possibility that they don't want to touch the magic, and ruin what has come to be known as a great anime series. However, the light novels cover so much more that wasn't touched upon in the anime, and if they made a second season, they'd be able to show a lot more stuff that we haven't seen.

As well as that, the ending for the first season, while not being hugely open, didn't suggest much of a closure either, so it would be pretty easy to pick up where they left off.

wellll the fake trailer article was posted in 2006. The announcement for the second season was announced this year.
