Personally, I think it's a good thing. Then again, I've got a lot of beliefs behind me. I'm all for the free rights of artistic expresion, but using children for pornographic material (for the purpose of exploiting pleasuring feelings, even virtually) is wrong IN MY OPINION. I've seen loli discussed on hentai sites before, and it's frankly hilarious (that they try to defend it at all).
If you have a fondness for looking at nude, or semi nude images in ANY form, of humans ie not furries below the age of 12, you are risking your social life regardless of the laws of your nation.
Being known to find sexual pleasure from images, real or imagined of persons below the age of 12, is usually only a good way of being labeled as badly as is possible in a community, and a guarantee that moving far away is almost impossible to avoid.
It likely will mean your friends dump you, family condemn you, your employer likely fires you. And all because you felt an urge to wank to images of naked kids real or imaginary.
Now loli is to some anything below age of consent. I think loli is 12 and under. But it really only matters to the people you live with. If they brand you a sick f**king pervert, you might as well forget complaining about the distinction.
But I can see Japan having to at least acknowledge that their culture is hip deep in media that often involves ambiguously aged art forms. I was not originally aware that the girls in Lucky Star were in their late teens. They are drawn cute and small.
And most anime has series with large amounts of 14 year olds. And even mainstream anime has nude or semi nude sequences. I have for one never seen Ranma as being hentai. Now if Ranma and Akane had gone and had actual sex during a show that would have sure made a difference. But they never did.
The thing is, society has a major obsession with age of majority determination.
And technically a 14 year old is a minor. And images of naked minors is child porn if the person is a living and breathing real person. And most people really don't care if the picture is just a cartoon. Our arguments don't impress them.
