Anime recommendation for a younger sister

Post by Ishbalan » Sun Nov 30, 2008 10:58 am

Recently, my 9 year old younger sister has taken an interest in my interests. She wants to watch anime. She watched Fullmetal Alchemist with me when I showed it to my family a year ago. On a whim, I decided to show her Bottle Fairy, and now she watches it nearly every day (rather unhealthily).

I can't think of what kind of anime she would like and be appropriate for her. The only shoujo anime I have seen are Fruits basket, Ouran Club, and Vampire Knight.
I gave her Fruits Basket and she cleaned through it in a matter of days. Ouran Club is a bit inappropriate for her age, and she's not old enough to be able to watched subtitled anime and be able to keep up with it, so that eliminates Vampire Knight at least until it gets licensed.

So basically I need some anime that fulfills the following requirements:
1. Shoujo anime, or at least anime a girl would like
2. Appropriate for a 9 year old
3. English dubbed

I was thinking of giving her Cardcaptor Sakura. I remembered watching it as Cardcaptors when I was her age. However, I found out that when they brought it over here, they unnecissarily shaved off a lot of the meat that made the anime. I'd like to give her the original, but I can't find a complete English-dubbed version. The only English-dubbed versions I have found were Cardcaptors, and every complete 70 episode version I've found was Sub only.
Any thoughts on this matter?

Didn't the original Cardcaptor Sakura have a lot of implied lesbianism?

As for recommendations:

Implied only counts if you realize what's being implied.

I would say inuyasha(BURN) but I'm not the anime buff like the rest of you guys.

Implied is fine. They should be simply close friends. Though, are you saying that letting her watch the edited Cardcaptors would be adequate?

Inuyasha=not appropriate
I'll wait another year or two.

Azumanga Daioh it's totally harmless
Pani Poni Dash, same thing, harmless.
Meow Meow Taruto harmless cat girl stuff.
Air TV has some sad stuff though
A Little Snow Fairy Sugar very cute.

None of the above could hope to be inappropriate in my view.
All in commercial dvd too.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I won't reccomend Clannad.

Princess Tutu- if she is into that kind of thing
Diamond Dust Drops- Great romance should be okay.

I think those should be appropriate for the most part.

I don't know about Lucky Star. There is alot of sexually innuendo.

Full Moon! That's the one I was trying to remember.

Just recalled an oldie-but-a-goodie that's appropriate:

My Neighbor Totoro

:awesome:
