Looking for a new sports anime

Post by Rhyzel » Sun May 10, 2009 11:14 pm

I have found myself very addicted to sports related anime. I am looking for something new to watch, as I have seen most of the more mainstream ones such as Hajime no Ippo, Prince of Tennis, Slam Dunk, Major, Whistle, Over Drive, Slam Dunk and Ookiku Furikabutte. I'd appreciate any other recommendations that you might have for me. Thanks :)

Mahjong is the only sport I'll ever play.

Ping Pong Club
Suzuka (only saw the first episode, but it seems to be track & field type stuff)
Aoki Densetsu Shoot!
Bamboo Blade
Ashita no Joe (old school...really old school, boxing)

straying away a little bit, you have the Initial D series

I forgot... I've seen Eyeshield 21 and Bamboo Blade.

I will check out the rest of them. Is Mahjong similar to Hikaru no Go? I wasn't entirely impressed with HnG, but at the very least, it was worth my time. Initial D is pretty awesome too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am still more than willing to take more ^_^

Is the Longhorn Cafe's Big Angus Burger similar to Wendy's Jr. Burger.
In a sense, yes.

And the anime isn't called Mahjong. It's called Akagi. Mahjong is the game thats played.

While your at it, try out Kaiji and One Outs as well.

There isn't a lot of track and field in Suzuka, it's pretty much a romance show. But if sports themed romantic comedy/drama/slice-of-life shows fit the bill, there's Mitsuru Adachi's Touch, H2, and new for this season, Cross Game.

Another baseball anime is Princess Nine, although I think it's out of print and hard to find now.

Battle Athletes is also pretty old and hard to find nowadays.

A classic tennis anime is Ace wo Nerae! (aka. Aim for the Ace!), which partly inspired Gunbuster.

And Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl is about a girl who is forced by here grandfather to practice um... judo.
