Am I the only chick anime fan who DOESN'T like yaoi?

Post by BishounenStalker » Sat Feb 01, 2003 7:13 pm

And why is it that other female fans assume that just because I'm a girl and I like anime, I must be a yaoi fan? It's not that I hate it, but I just don't see what's so sexy about two guys doing each other (not to mention the few yaoi fics I've accidentally stumbled on because the discoutreous author didnt put a warning on it have been plotless, out-of-character crap, or romantic fluff. Both of which I can't stand). And I'm sick of being considered a second-class citizen in some fandoms because of it ::coughGUNDAMWINGcoughUTENAcoughFF7cough::

So I guess what I'm really asking is...am I the only one? Are there any other female anime fans who AREN'T into yaoi and are sick of being assumed otherwise?

I am not into it. My sister really liked Gravitation...I watched it and I wasn't offended but I wouldn't have sought out stuff like that in any case. I usually end up laughing when I come across anything yaoi like in anime especially if it's meant to be serious. I think it's because I always remember back to Ohayocon where they aired it at 3 in the afternoon with no indication it was shonen-ai. The guys cleared out on the first kiss

I have never been in a situation where I thought other people thought less of me because I wasn't into it. I also have never really been assumed to have liked it.

Way to be open-minded, Saucer.

Anyways, as a red blooded heterosexual male, I don't like yaoi, so I don't watch it (duh!). I don't like yaoi, not because of the homosexuality, but because I can't stand the mushy aspect of it. I also don't like mushy shoujo, for that matter.
I'm out...

I'm positive you aren't the only one, I have many female anime fan friends, and I don't think any of them are into yaoi.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

if it makes you feel any better, im a male and im not really into hentai. even though i started a topic about hentai at a different message board, and made sure that any imitators of my topic were swiftly shut down. i dont know if you can get this out of my rambling, but basically: no, i doubt you are the only one. although it may seem otherwise, not everyone is a perverted fuckhead

GAY GAY GAY

Nah i saw the first three eps of gravitation it was an anime with good mood, I mean it was my first yaoi anime so I kinda liked it because of the freshness of the thematic, funny how homo relationships workout.

And then again the love writter dude is a bitchingly difficult person to start with, then add his bisexuality and then again their gay relationship!

Thanks. As much as I like anime, it's one thing about fandom that's starting to piss me off. People make way too many assumptions. The reason I posted this was because a friend I just met a couple weeks ago came over recently with some anime to watch. Namely Gravitation and Weiss Kreuz, assuming I was a yaoi fan. And she wondered why I wasn't thrilled. I told her I wasn't into yaoi, and she took it as a personal insult.

The worst is when I tell these girls I'm not into it, and I get reactions ranging from "Why NOT?!" to "Oh, I see another friend over there. Bye..." to "You don't know what you're missing, girl." And then there's my personal favorite, "Oh, don't worry. We'll convert you." They're almost as bad as Jehova's Witnesses.

The only ones I've met at the anime club who're actually decent about it are my three best female friends (actually, my three ONLY female friends. I hang out mostly with guys). They can actually live with the fact that I'm a girl, an anime fan, but not a yaoi fan, and have even defended me against the aforementioned Yaoi-evangelists.

I feel a lot better now. Thanks guys :D

You are not alone, gal! I too hate yaoi with a passion. I wanna go up to those who like it and say, "jesus christ, they're animated guys! For the love of god, get a man and get laid." I know damn well that's a pretty mean generalization. I know plenty of "spoken for" women who DO like yaoi for the stories/art/etc. However, I'm basing my opinion on what I see at conventions. And it's *because* of these female fans/yaoi fans that makes going to cons a little less enjoyable. "Ohh, Gundam Wing boys! *shriek!!!!*" *sigh*
