I just paid $60 a disc for Aoi Hana, with two episodes per disc. So uh... I hate to speak ill of the dead, but...

Re: Bang Zoom CEO: Anime R.I.P.
He was talking to North Americans, I am guessing, which I am not. I don't buy R1s, not just because they tend to suck compared to R2s, but because, of course, <meme>I live in Japan.</meme>.
I do purchase source. I may bitch about it, but I do it. I can't help the American industry, because it is not involved in my consumer market. I prefer the option of English subs, but honestly, I no longer need them except if a show has really convoluted dialogue.
Slice of life? Usually no. My Japanese is good enough.
What's Mr. Bang Zoom say to that?

Re: Bang Zoom CEO: Anime R.I.P.
Well his basic reasoning behind the post seems to be to help get the panic out that unless there is some radical influx of purchasing in the USA Bang zoom will stop dubbing anime. Which I think most people in the biz probably already considered a done deal. They don't make that much money from it and they are in LA using union. The dubs done in TX are by the other guys are cheaper by default. Most titles don't sell enough to recoup the production costs of dubbing let alone licensing hence the increase in sub only releases over here. So why would any business pay more for "higher quality" union dub from Bang Zoom? The bottom line is the current generation of fans and incoming group don't buy physical media so his plea is pointless. The real question is how many USA anime localizers can stay in business until someone figures out a way to make money off all these "fans" we see at conventions.Kionon wrote:What's Mr. Bang Zoom say to that?
We have now entered a serious discusson and have ruined the drama potential of this post. For that I apologize =p

Goddammit, Dan. Now I gotta like... think about what you just said and articulate a coherent and reasoned response.outlawed wrote:We have now entered a serious discusson and have ruined the drama potential of this post. For that I apologize =pKionon wrote:What's Mr. Bang Zoom say to that?
