Older anime recommendations?

It's that time again where I cannot for the life of me find an anime that interests me. A lot of the newer series just don't appeal to me at all, or have left me completely disappointed. But I feel like this is an opportunity to catch up on some classic series I missed out on.

So I'm wondering what older animes some of you would recommend for me (I'm mainly looking for shows from between 1995 - 2005). I'm mostly looking for either action/adventure, mystery, comedy, or total mindfuck.

I am currently looking into - Samurai 7, Rurouni Kenshin (and Samurai X), Madlax, and The Twelve Kingdoms.

Seen Trigun, Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. Was planning on looking into Noir after I finished Madlax (Grabbed Madlax over Noir, only because it was the cheaper set)
