Re: The Org Redesign - Design...
The website needs a mascot which acts as a persistent identity, it should be an original anime character, possibly doing something editing based, though can change for festive holidays. I mean surely someone like Pas can draw something in photoshop... right now you go to the homepage of the website and there is nothing which tells the outside person straight away that we make anime music videos.

maybe banners do that but I still think a mascot competition to put next to the logo is a good idea. Also I'm guessing banners only show up if you have ad block off as I don't see any.

Re: The Org Redesign - Design...
I feel somewhat conflicted in participating in these threads since I don't really plan on working on the code anymore in the foreseeable future. Hopefully however people can get some ideas from this...
Before I stepped down last year I made this, purely as a concept.
(This is a static page, none of the links actually work.)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2758911/orgstuff/layout.html
The page width is expanded and the drop down menu is using pure css. The idea was that each category name itself would be a link to a page that clearly details the purpose of the pages within that category. Once in a section, the section's links would appear on the left hand nav. This allows the site to still be usable in browsers that don't support mouseover expanding menus. (most touchscreen-only smartphones) All sections and select pages would be accessible from any page through the top nav.
Anyways, just an idea... Use or ignore it as you wish.

I could live with that as well, except for the fact that it's too wide and goes off the right side of my browser window.

I could live with Corran's version, although I do not like it as much as I like the current navigation bars.
Again, I reiterate, I like the site as it is, and do not really understand the objections to it. It's simple, it's clean, I like the color scheme, and I know how to navigate it.

^ you're only thinking in your perspective since you're an old member here and acting as protective as ever. "I know how to navigate it" good for you but say that to someone who hasn't used the site for 10 years. What worked then, doesn't work now, especially in terms of user involvement and innovation in websites. Plus most people your age won't bother with this website. We have to think in practical terms of gaining the attention of 13-25 type age group who are overloaded with stimuli across every tab opened at one point on their website browser.

The width is 950 pixels... which is less than the 960 defacto standard used by sites such as yahoo, msn, facebook, youtube, amazon, etc.Scintilla wrote:I could live with that as well, except for the fact that it's too wide and goes off the right side of my browser window.
