Nope - it's 100% true. They'd rather end JACON on a high not then see if go to crap like so many other Florida conventions.meleechampion wrote:What the FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--jacon.org wrote:JACON

"So many" FL conventions have gone to crap? I find that very hard to believe. Then again I've only been around this scene for 4-5 years or so.
Everything I went to in Florida last year was an amazing convention. (with the exception of Janicon, which was a damn shame)
That would include the most crowded JACON I've ever been to (I blame the venue). A very fun and unique AFO, crowd participation ftw. Another "why was this so much fun? oh yeah, smash bros" Megacon weekend... and best of all (maybe) was a little first year convention called EXPcon in Ft Lauderdale.

Re: JACON 2009 has "The Touch!"
In the past ten years there are many conventions that have come and gone. Some disappear for a year - and some just fall off of existence. Some have even come back. Some examples:meleechampion wrote:"So many" FL conventions have gone to crap? I find that very hard to believe. Then again I've only been around this scene for 4-5 years or so.

Anime Express (skips a year every once and a while and has gotten smaller)
HoukoCon (happened once? Twice?)
FITCon (disappeared for YEARS and just came back last year)
O-saurocon (sorry... I'm doing these off the top of my head and am probably spelling that wrong. Announced and never happened.)
Chibi-Pa (hit or miss convention that blames attendees publicly on their website when no one attends the event)
And of course: JaniCon.
Those are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head.
For every great, legitimate, hard-working convention you see - there are that many more that have failed or died.
Florida breeds conventions. LOL
Also note: EXPCon is in St. Augustine - not Lauderdale. SuperCon is in Lauderdale.
(See! So many conventions! LOL)

Re: JACON 2009 has "The Touch!"
Oh yeah! I get those two locations mixed up. I don't even know my own state! (born and raised)
Haha, oh Anime Express. Anime Express was technically my first convention, but I'll always remember Jacon being my first GOOD convention. You didn't mention Metrocon... which I'll try attending after you guys disappear.
I guess I'm just sad to see a good thing go. Kinda how it's TRAGEDY when a young person dies in a horrible accident, but when an old person dies (even in similar circumstances) it's "Well... they were 84 years old... it was almost their time to go anyway". I'm unaware of the statistics or how well "Florida's Most Successful Anime Convention" has done over the past couple years, but every single time I've been, the convention has been great. Always crowded, always lots of fun. If you guys were on your way out (financially... and who isn't these days) then alright... it just seemed so sudden.

Well, I for one will be submitting an AMV. It will be my first one, but at least it's something.
