Tekkoshocon this weekend
So, what all else is going to be there? I'll be there, along with one of my old college friends who was a part of the group that I worked with on my first videos.

Ironic group of editors to be replying to this.
I'll be making a full report probably tomorrow, but your 'The Maid You Want' video won the Comedy/Parody section, rogueandflexei. Tom's and my trailers put up a good showing- from what I found out, "The Messenger" and "PPG:R" were about even with a margin of about 10 votes between them and 'The Maid You Want'- but it's hard to beat a well-done fanservice video. The other categories went to other editor's videos.
I'll be trying to do a full writeup on the con (and especially the AMV contest) tomorrow, when I'm a good bit less tired.

Please refer to this thread that Ashyukun so generously wrote.Machine wrote:How about reactions to my videos?
I sent in My Funny Valentine, ALIENS, and Alternate Reality??
People love or hate?
BTW congratulations! Alternate Realities finally got the credit that (I think) it deserves.[/url]

Yup, as Dan pointed out, your videos did quite well Carlos, with two of them taking home roughly half the total awads in the contest. Your 'Aliens' trailer was well received, but I think it had something of a rough time between two more comedic (at least the credits on Tom's "The Messenger" got a fair amount of laughts) trailers. It might have done better under Action, all told- but it got a good amount of applause, and I thought it was quite well done.
I don't remember "Alternate Reality" getting a huge amount of applause (though I do remember some premature applause after the first two 'realities'.... some people just aren't the sharpest :p ), but that was because people were still sitting there going "What the *(&*(&#???" Though it did not win its category (I don't know if it actually did and the next one down was given the category, since it won every non-category award, or if it actually didn't win the category), it swept the overall awards, and rightly so. It was extremely original, well edited, and overall impressive. I even voted against myself for it.
"My Funny Valentine" was very well received (obviously, winning its category).

Wow dude, you voted against yourself? Admirably noted. I promise to return the favor! If you come to AWA, find me and I will buy you a drink or 2.
La Familia fisting for sure!
Damn I wish I could have been there to see people's reactions! Grrr curse college!

Bah, you'd do the same if the video you were voting for was THAT much better. Not to say Ashykun's video isn't good, but if I was competing against something "great," it's only honorable to choose the better video. You just happened to have the better one. Now for me to work on a "better" video so I don't have to vote against myself .Machine wrote:Wow dude, you voted against yourself? Admirably noted. I promise to return the favor! I definitely plan to be at AWA, so I may take you up on that. Even though I don't drink, I'd love to just chat in general.
Dan pretty much said it right- "Alternate Reality" was the better video, especially in terms of original concept. I actually voted for another video for the 'Drama' category, because I felt that "Alternate Reality" really defied traditional classification- but it was, IMO, the best video there, and probably the one video that most people will remember the most from the contest (I can only hope mine isn't too far behind in their memories 8) ). I certainly have no qualms with voting against one of my videos if there is something decidedly better. I would have voted for Vic's "Cowboy Bebop 007" against my own "Dark Metropolis" at Katsucon if I'd bothered to vote (I was being lazy ), as it was a far better action video.
But, that far from means I'll let up on people at upcoming contests. I've got entries for ACen, Otakon, and AWA to get done that I hope will have other editors voting against themselves. 8) (well, OK, at least Otakon... The voting for the AWA Masters doesn't quite work that way, and I'm not expecting to win at ACen, as the video I'm making is basically me just being damn silly with an obscure anime I happen to have on DVD )
Congrats to all of the winners at Tekkoshocon, and to everyone who send in an entry. The audience seemed to really enjoy the whole contest, and it was easily one of the most attended events at the convention. Hopefully next year more of us will actually be able to be at the con, and do something of an AMV panel.
