Anime Festival 4 in Orlando

Post by tutterbutter » Sun May 25, 2003 10:37 am

Hi was curious to know if any fellow Amv'ers were heading out to the one in Orlando in August, and for those living in Orlando, if there was other "Get togethers and Hangouts, for people interested in the love of AmV's and Making them" I live around the orlando area, thought it would be awesome to get together with locals and get input, ideas and just great conversation. Also looking for a little bit of a mentor. Ive read numerous forums, and help etc.. But really just looking for great conversations for people who are interesting in AMV's like I am.. I didnt realize how big this community was on the net till i found this site, and its wonderful. But on the side, would love to have a few local peeps to generate and share ideas with.. Makes it all a little more personable :)

Hello and welcome to AnimeMusicVideos.org!

I am from from Orlando, and several other members are scattered throughout Florida. The University of Central Florida (UCF) is hosting JACON May 30 through June 1. Link: http://www.jacon.org/. A lot of people are coming to this convention, so I suggest that you come as well.

I haven't heard anything about another one in August. Where can I get some more information on that?

I've been to AFO the last two years and plan on coming again this year. It's a great con, and the AMV contest was run very well last year. I'm looking forward to it. I wasn't able to get a new video ready for Jacon this time around, which I'll be going to as well, but I hope to have two new videos for AFO (or atleast one).

I don't live in Orlando... 'bout three hours north. Last year, on Friday night, there was an AMV creator party at the con. Last I heard, they were planning on having it again this year.

That's Correct.

That's right, we are having another official AMV thank you party.

It's open to any AMV creator (and a reasonable number of guests) that submits a video to the convention. It could be for the contest, for the feedback panel, and/or the 24 hour room.

Food and drink will be available, even if I have to pay for it out of my own pocket. Probably pizza and soda like last year.

You need to RSVP for the party though, so I can have a good head count for ordering food. The RSVP form is attached to the video submission form to make it easier.

I've also decided to try a few new experiments. We'll have the standard AMV contest, but I'm also trying to get submissions for an Adult / Hentai contest and a Live Action video contest. For those of you volunteering, there's also a Staff / Volunteer division.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Well, there's two weeks to go before AFO and not much talking around here. I was wondering who here will be going to the con.
I managed to finish my new video just in time.

Yeh I noticed that there aint much talking going on about AFO. Im going though.. Im gonna try and have a good time.. Maybe someone whose been to AFO can help me confirm this.. but Ive heard, its a very small one, a great place to get your ears wet, and yet not be overwhelmed. and The AMV contest, is mostly audience participation and voting. All in all, why not come and experience this, wonderful workshop:
How to Make a Plushie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Host: Sam McGue
Saturday: 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Workshop Room

Learn how to make plushies in particular the rag doll type. The panel will begin with a talking then there will be questions and discussion with the attendees. Feel free to bring a plushie that you need some assistance with.

I really like AFO. I've never been to a "big" con, and I think AFO shouldn't overwealm you.
The best thing I like about it is that it takes place in the hotel so you never really need to leave. The only time we do is to get food so we don't have to pay hotel food prices.
As for the contest, the AMV contest last year is still the only one I've been to that actually started on time (I've been to 8 cons). All in all, Legionaire and company treat the creators well with the Friday night party and reserved seating during the contest itself.
