The videos were judged on a PC monitor using the format the person submitted with. Then all the videos were encoded to DV to be played at the con using DV.

Of course they didnt do this the very last minute. They forgot that DV and DVD regularly have opposite field orders. So it's all fucked and the reschedule for the next morning.

So what do they do? The deinterlaced all the videos. In premiere.

Worst. tech. ever.
Yep..for sure. I could believe no one bothered to watch the dam contest on an NTSC monitor prior... Hec when I run a contest, I watch my master media on a TV (in my case a projection TV) to ensure it look and works right...That I assume is the most basic and most critical check there is and hopefull other contests do it as well...

Thanks for replies, everyone.
Narcted-thank you much for the heads up. I don't know how to make AMVs yet, so no worries there. I was volunteer for 2k3, unfortunately I had no idea AX AMVs were so big.. the number of folks who went there were just beyond amazing(and quite challenging to manage), and the staff didn't really listen to my suggestions nor did they really help out much so I'm trying to hear from the actual crowd.

I'll let this thread move on its own for a while, until I 2k4 ax probably.

That a new rule? Cuz comedy winner of 02 was staff (just not the amv staff, I guess) Maybe that issue last year was the reason of that rule hehe.
Maybe you're right. :? I would consult the almighty rules themselves, but aren't posted now and I don't have them saved. Can anyone quote it? I do remember a rule against staff in some form.

Yeah, that's the main reason I don't volunteer anymore.
