You aren't missing much. The dealer's room was shitty, the AMV contest was shitty (a few good videos, then at one point there were three consecutive Naruto videos, complete with ANBU subs, from the same guy, and a Perfect Blue video featuring the rape scene got past the screening due to the time crunch.... yes, there were children present), and I can't really comment on more than that as I was working in the art room for the rest of the day. This is my sixth animazement and I can honestly say it is the worst unless it magically picks up tomorrow.

This year

Post by spookloops » Sun May 30, 2004 6:14 pm

This was my first time going after hearing how grand it was in the past... I was a little disappointed, but I want to go again next year anyways. If anyone saw me walking about, I was Count D from Pet Shop of Horrors.
I was definitely disappointed with the AMV contest, but if I didn't go see it, I wouldn't have ended up here amid the most recent batch of noobs! The Dealers room.... <sigh>

In the wake of Animazement

Post by Blitzkrieg1701 » Sun May 30, 2004 7:29 pm

Good to know I wasn't the only one unhappy with the AMV contest (I hope the thrashing given to the fool who let two "Bring Me To Life" videos go back to back was savage) All in all, though, I thought Animazement was a blast. Then again, I'm a total newbie, so what do I know?

Anyone else see the Taiko drumming? That was awsome (Bad Andy was fun to, in a messy, ramshakle sort of way)

Gotta admit I too was a little disappointed with the AMV contest.

First of all I think AMV hell shoulda won 1st hands down, it was head and shoulders above the rest, it was actually kinda funny, because I was there with my friends, and when AMV hell FIRST came on, I said I bet thats Zarxrax's vid, turns out looking at the results I was correct.

Also no different catagories? Just 1st 2nd and 3rd? C'mon thats just bad form. Man I also caught the bad end of that Eva bring me to life vids back to back, HALF the audience got up and left when the 2nd one came on, and the video I entered was the LAST one shown, the Naruto Guilty by Association, I was hopeful because usually you run your best videos first and last, even if thats not the case, I'd like to go on thinking that anyways :)

I had fun tho despite my AMV complaints.

Well, you can't blame the problems on anyone in particular. It was a time crunch and not everything got screened. I do think it was a horrible twist of fate for the two consecutive Evanescence Bring Me To Life videos, as it was unfair to both of them, but that was a coincidence more than anything as far as I could tell. The Naruto video assault was mean, no real denying or defending against that beyond the aforementioned lack of screening time.

The biggest tragedy in my opinion was the dvd malfunction that cut four videos from the end, and not just because mine was one of them. They were all good, one even went on to get third place, and it was just a cruel technical error. They were shown at the cosplay contest, so all was not lost and they probably got more recognition that way anyway.

I wonder who is going to get roped into doing the contest next year. I'm going to be on staff again, though I sincerely doubt they'd want me to touch anything given I'm a jerk who would cut the contest down to 45 minutes with my anti-subtitle, anti-watermarked, anti-crappy elitist jerk mentality. Nope, I shall remain the art room nazi who tells you not to touch things and puts things on the truck when the con is over.

As per the naruto vids, those were apparently submitted all on 1 tape, with no info whatsoever. I would have cut that crap out right there ;p

I really thought he was showing them by anime for a while there, the Naruto vids really threw me for a loop because I expected mine to come following the last one, but man I saw a lot of subs, a lot of DivX labels, and a lot of LONG songs, that just wouldn't end....

Was there a pre screening or what?

That'd be a Nightowl question, but I sincerely doubt it. If there was, only one of the Naruto videos would have gotten through and I have no doubt in my mind that Perfect Blue would have been cut.

As much of a hippocrit as I am for saying this after sending my things in late for three years now, methinks we should stick with the solid deadline next year to make sure everything can get screened.

I was surprised by that also. It seems a natural idea to have categories, maybe along the lines of serious, parody/comedy, etc. If there were categories, more of the deserving vids would have gotten at least some attention when winners were shown.
