Okay, since every time someone wants to call this thread elitist, they bring up my posting of that quote, I'm going to clarify. (I mean seriously, I posted that 2 months ago, and my name's already been brought up twice in one page, despite that fact that I haven't been a part of this whole discussion at all lately)AbsoluteDestiny wrote:I think it needs to be stated that this is not a public get together of amv creators, rather a private party consisting of many amv creators who are friends.
Just like last year the corbo bash thread appears as an invitation to everyone and their donkey, when it's not.
As paizuri once posted, that quote is harsher than the reality. We meet new .orgers every year at Corbo Bash. How do they find out about the party? From this thread.
The conception a lot of people seem to have is that since we're not out-right handing out "invites" to the party, then we're closed and exclusive. The reality is, the "openness" of it is simply limited by the size of the room (which we don't know about until Friday of the con). It'd be great to say "Hey hey, open party, tell everyone, bring all of your friends!", but then what happens when the room is too small and then we start having to turn away people at the door? How's that for exclusivity?
Corbo Bash is a laid back, friendly gathering. Meeting new people has always been one of the fun aspects of it. Keeping attendance restricted is a matter of practicality, not one of elitism. Moving this discussion to a more private medium really would make the party closed and restricted to a few selected people, because no one else would know about it. We welcome new attendees if there is space.
