I'm up for food, of course... although in all honesty I'd like to see us do something other than japanese this time.
I mean, it's like every con there's a trip to a japanese restaurant. Not that I don't like japanese food - quite the opposite - but I'd personally prefer a place that was picked for having the following qualitites:
Big tables that arent round (big round tables limit conversation to 2 people)
Easy/quick to get to
Good value for money (which means good quality not overpriced)
Large menu
Has alcohol
Just a suggestion... I'll go anywhere just for the sociability.

Good suggestions. I hadn't thought about the tables but I'll do that on my scout trip.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:...but I'd personally prefer a place that was picked for having the following qualitites:

there is a ruby tuesday at the new location...paizuri wrote:Let's go to the Ruby Tuesdays near where the convention was held last year. Even after 4 consecutive days of eating there last year, I still can't get enough of it!!!
of course there is ALOT of other resteraunts also....
the con is attached to a "speciality mall" ie alot of woerd stuff and eateries... and there is another mall across the street (there is a covered bridge over the road)
and there is MASSIVE amoutns of food all up and down cobb parkway.... this is one con where food is everywhere... i think there are more eateries with in walkin distance of this years awa than otakon (And i loved the mall at otakon being one block away)

Yes BBQ was fun. Although it did take awhile to get all the orders through. Obviously would've been quicker if it was sit-down (with a waitress). Not related, but no offense to the MTT gang's "home," but you gotta taste *real* BBQ here in TX some day (but you won't visit Austin with EK and I ). Where they give you a plate of meat...after you're done, they give you another plate of meat and so on (not that EK reads this, but I'm referring to Salt Lick).Kusoyaro wrote:BBQ at JACON was fun...and it was an easy, quick way to get a huge number of people crammed into one place.
I'd love to make it this time, but I dunno... It's hard getting out of work that early on Thursday without having to just take the day off. *sigh*
Taking a day off? God forbid ...I take it you still haven't taken a day off for a con yet (like Animazement, Katsucon, JACON and so on)? I hate j00. Then again, I bet you make it up...

So far 25 people have expressed interest. Last year's dinner came close to 40 people so considering not everyone knows of their travel plans just yet, the fact that we will certainly pick up people right before the dinner (we picked up 10 people while in the lobby last year), and the usual trend that a continued event is larger than a first time event I'm going to expect 40-60 people.Quu wrote:dop we have an estimate of the amount of people yet? that will help gauge the place? 30-40 people?
I might go resturant hunting tomorrow in that area so I'll try to narrow down the possible options. I don't want to start taking RSVPs until we're a little closer to AWA and people know what their arrival times are.
Y'all totally missed the plum wine saga by doing BBQ that night And take the bloody day off like I am 8)Kusoyaro wrote:BBQ at JACON was fun...and it was an easy, quick way to get a huge number of people crammed into one place.
