Evil, evil Parents
Is anyone else stuck with pwrents who think taht anime is the work of the devil? I swear, they think I watch too much anime, despite the fact that I watch Bleach, and I have the FMA manga, and thats IT. Not by my choice. ANyway, what I'm getting at is, I wan't to go to a con. My anime club (which my parents grudgingly allow me to attend) is going to ODCon, and I can't go. I haven't even tried to ask - my parents would explode over the suggestion. I have a while to find out how to ask, since the con isn't until march. Any suggestions?

Get a job. Save money. Wait until you're 18. Then, go to all the cons you want.

Here, this will countdown for you. http://www.timeleft.info/NuclearOnslaught wrote:*Counts time until his 18th birthday*
They are your parents. They have a responsibility to control what you watch and where you go. Best thing I can think about approaching them is demonstrating you are a mature individual and that you will not get into trouble while you are there. But this approach will probably not help if they protest to anime in general.

As I grew up in a deeply religious family/household I feel for you. Every thing I listened to or watched was evil propaganda from the devil!
About the only other suggestion I can offer you (besides the ol' tried and true wait until you are 18 and move out, have a life of your own, etc...) is to try to show your parents that Anime is a positive influence on you. Mainly by staying out of trouble, study in school and make good grades (improve your grammer!) you may be able to show them that your anime club/friends are a good influence on you. Getting a job and saving some of your money to go toward a convention may also prove that you are motivated and showing some responsibility.
In short I discovered at a very young age that in order to do SOME of the things I really wanted to do I had to show that they provided a positive influence on me and lead to my learning responsibility. Hope this helps you out a bit and GOOD LUCK!!
... Moved out when I was 19yrs old and have been living and loving (for the most part) MY life ever since.

I'm 15, and my mom was just like that, too. She didn't like me watching anime at all, and I didn't dare ask her about a convention. It took a couple more tries but we went to Shoujocon together, and she had a blast. I also started showing her anime (she has some favorites, Hoshi no Koe and Kenji's Spring being the top), and it's cool. Of course, there is that whole money aspect which isn't cool. At all. But it works out. Just give it time.

well i know no one has mentioned it yet and its not the most realistic solutions but you can always....
kill them or if you dont want that on you head make a hit on them
don listen to me...or the little voices in my head
edit: letting your parents see this is not the best idea either....i do have a feeling that its people like me that make most parents un-easy about going to a con or rahter letting their precious little children go either
Mr. Oni is also not a good person to hang out with (so im told)
