because im the addiction, i know that it sucks... you can not bash what you want but just the same, i can bash what i want, and if i recall, enterance was like $40... screw that, it better be fucking AWA for that... or atleast a decent con that i know dosnt suck... *hell if your a first year con, you should be in the $20 or less range for the weekend... just to get people to come... and plus, their amv contest was a joke... they had fucking ray charles judging... i know they said blind judging but damn, i mean tha guys dead too, he cant hear or see... thats just wrong for him to judge amvs..Scintilla wrote:Um, if you didn't go, how do you know how bad it was?
I personally am not about to bash a con I've never been to.
(And I remember hearing about a month ago that the organization even went non-profit.)

In any case, no, I didn't go to Kunicon Atlanta, but the major inhibitor there was the fact that I live approximately a thousand miles away and could not afford to go.

I did manage to hit up the kunicon event this last weekend in atlanta...
All in all trying to rate a first year con again a con that has a strong running in atlanta is always hard to come by but also i am not one to bash the effort either...cause you can always say it is not AWA....well of course not..that is like comparing Boss Hog to Darth Vader..they are two completely different things...
For the event itself i will say it was not too bad..it didn't have the droves of people that you are use to seeing at AWA but it did have quite of a few people around the hotel.
As to the AMV stuff yah..i will say it was lacking there..one of my main complains was how the schduled most of the AMV events...they had AMV EXPO that took place for like a couple of hours but it was slated like really early afternoon while either noone was at the hotel or other events were playing..so it was kinda odd not have a room like the VAT at AWA where stuff is getting played almost consantly and there were really no AMV panels so it was mostly just the expo and the contest and that was pretty much it for AMV events...expo took place on fri..contest was on sat and no other amv events for the rest of the weekend. The contest itself was ok...but there wasn't really alot of entries either..i think they say that got like a total of 34 entries for amv which is not really alot in comparison to AWA. So the competition wasn't really all that stiff as it goes...I mean i submitted a video that was just borderline of being disqualifed for language and it came out winning Best Comdey. The other videos in the other catagories were not so bad off..but it was more about one person being able to edit just a slight bit better than another that pushed them to the top..so for the AMV side..it was lacking..but i am sure that AWA first amv contest might have gone something like that too..low number of entrants cause noone knows about it..quickly swept under the rug cause people show no intrest in it...but now AWA has grown to be the AMV event of the south..so i can't bash a first effort and not just because i won a award at it...but mostly cause i honestly did have fun at the event.
Aside from the AMV stuff..i attended some of the other stuff..Dealers room..was just kinda meh..but spent some money there..Gaming room was pretty huge..played quite a few hours worth of Tekken 5 there. Attended the Select Start concert...those guys are just awesome...Costume events...I attented the Cosplay Catwalk..which was fun..got some good laughs there...Attended the Cosplay Bikini Contest....I still say Ryo-oki girl should have won that one..cause she was looking way too good. Truging around downtown Atlanta getting lost cause Toothpicvic was leaning us the long way to ever where....That girls boobies at Hooters were huge!!! More gaming....more underage girls in catears and tails....15 WILL GET YOU 20!!! I guess to wrap it all up it was kinda a standard con..like i say it wasn't AWA where you got AMV editors come in from everwhere and most of the people you plan on hanging with are AMV editors and where some people save up their entire vacation just to come to Atlanta for 3 days in Sept. I would even try to put Kunicon in that light...it most likely will never reach that..but it allowed me to be geekish for one more weekend to kinda give me a ramp up to AWA. So will i attend next year? Sure why the hell not!!

I went with my usual con buddies, Firedog and ChrizTheStampede. Firedog won Best Drama for his Beyond the Clouds video and I managed to take Best Parody for my Hellsing trailer, so it wasn't a waste of a weekend. A good day for FI '99 Productions if nothing else.
Considering they only had 34 entries, the field was pretty good. During the awards ceremony they showed nine videos plus the winners (something like that, it totaled 15 videos shown anyway). I had wanted to the see the rest of the entries, which were supposed to be shown at midnight Saturday, but for some reason got pushed back until after Battle Royale so it would have been around 2 a.m. and I said screw it.
The con itself was a bit bleh. A lot of J-Pop/Rock and Asian movies, but not a whole lot of anime stuff. The dealer's room was pretty sparse (still managed to blow enough money there, though).
