AWA XI AMV Dinner

Post by SnhKnives » Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:40 pm

Well, I know that Red Wolf Studios normally is the one who organizes this thing, but its a month until the convention and I honestly havnt seen him online whatsoever. No LJ posts, and only on AIM one time in the past 6 months or so.

Now I wanted to say, that if necessary, myself and some other atlanta area creators might want to take the initiative and make reservations/set this thing up.

If you know for a fact that you are coming to AWA this year and will be arriving at some decent hour on thursday night (around 7pm or earlier) please post here and let me know if you plan to attend. I will start talking around and if necessary I will set this thing up. I loved the AMV Dinner last year and I would hate to see this year be any less stellar.

So, start posting away, and if anyone knows how to get in contact with Red Wolf, please let me know.

08/24/05: Update

This event is in no way associated with AWA, the AWA Video Art Track, or any AWA staff.

Ok, I forgot to mention, for those of you who don't know. The AWA AMV Dinner is traditionally held thursday night before the convention starts. The time varies as people arrive, but reservations are usually made for around 8-8:30pm. Last year and years before that the resturant is a place called Carrabba's Italian Grill.

The tradition is to gather up and form a group at the Waverly Hotel, and then as a group walk to the resturaunt. The path to the resturaunt passes over I-285 (the Atlanta bypass) and there is an infamous bridge you cross.

As I looked back at Red Wolf's post from last year. I thought it would be interesting to maybe try out Paul's idea from last year. Which was rent a room in the Cobb Galleria for a few hours, and rent a projector/speakers/etc and be able to run some of the AMV Discs that many people are notorious for bringing along in the background while having Pizza.

However, this requires alot of work to be done on my part. Also, I am worried that it only being a month till the actual con, it might be too late to plan such an event. Also I would need to do something like Paul did and have people sign up and pay entry costs ahead of time. Since the room and projector rental (unless someone can bring one) would cost alot of money, I dont think I could gather enough money to pay the fee ahead of time without input from the attendees.

That is just a thought, if you want to stick with going to Carraba's then that is also a great option. Either are fine, just throwing out some ideas.[/i]

I'm hoping to be able to attend the dinner this year. I'll know a bit closer to the con, once my class schedule is finalized.
