Re: Finding legit import anime
Cheap and import don't really go together. Hell DVDs are ludicrously expensive in Japan as is. It's funny when people complain about anime pricing here when in Japan their DVDs are almost twice as much and have about half the number of episodes.mr.648 wrote:I'm just asking if anyone knows of any good sites that has cheap, but legit import anime?

That said I'd recomend CD Japan as your site but it's certainly not cheap. They're the best resource I use for most any Japanese import media.

He does know where to go to get cheep DVDs and such. I mannaged to get 11 Bleach DVDs for around $300 - 8 of them were really cheep (the other 3 drove the price up a bit though).

http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/ is an auction site, one of many though many sellers wont ship to the US, in addition its in japanese. However some listings are in english and www.rinkya.com is a middle man site that will arrange the shipping for those auctions who wont ship statside. However this is all very expensive. First R2 dvds sold in Japan are generaly 50 dollars (retail) a piece and usually run only 2 episodes, second the middle man is gonna get his and third shipping is not cheap. There have been a number of r2 import anime dvds on ebay lately but they've all been hella expensive. Good Luck.

I have heard that it is legal to download unlicensed anime in the US. Just make sure that nobody has acquired the license (well, at least for that season as is the case with the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh which will probably never be picked up). If you feel guilty about downloading fansubs, just buy it if it is ever released stateside.

Not true. Look for information on the Berne Convention - It establishes international copyright law by the countries that signed it - like the U.S. and Japan.CCCP2 wrote:I have heard that it is legal to download unlicensed anime in the US. Also, the whole outrageous priced R2 thing doesn't hold true for everything. Long series with mass appeal (like say shonen jump series) are often the same high price but 4 or 5 eps per dvd (they make their money in volume of sales). The short series are the ones that you end up feeling the most ripped off for.
