Too Much Music?

I still buy CDs, tapes and vinyl albums. Almost every song in my iTunes library is directly copied from CDs I own.

I as welll. I only really listen to my ipod when I'm on some sort of trip or at school (free time). Otherwise, it's a CD player or my mother's old vinyls for me.

There's something satisfying about having a tangible CD that downloading an mp3 just can't achieve, I'm sorry. I will never let go of CDs.

As for decent music - yeah, most of the stuff on the radio now is crap. Personally, though, I prefer "oldies." Pretty much any overplayed Motown, 70's, or 80's Hit is in my top list.

And you know... I had NO idea that there was so much "emo" and "rock" music around... I mean, where did all of these bands come from all of a sudden? Seriously, I didn't even know they existed until earlier this year and my friend Bence was like, "What did you think people listen to?"
I guess it never occured to me.

I don't care for rock, myself. Except for Queen, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi.

That's why I really don't listen to the radio anymore. A lot of the music that comes out by these mainstream bands aren't all that great AND people put to big of a hype into it which just further kills any liking I would have had for it.

I'd have to agree alot of todays music particularly Rap/Rock sound identical. That's why I still listen to old school Metallica, Guns and Roses, and Tool. But there are some artist out there to me that are doing thier own thing. IMO in rock you have Coheed & Cambria - Great band live as well as on CD if you can get over the lead singer voice, Tool - GODLY, Chevelle - Awesome band great vocals and musical content, Three Days Grace - Hard/soft they can do it all. These are just a few of the mainstream bands that are actually very very good. It's hard because alot of other up and coming bands sound alot liek them. Now for the Rap scene I'll quote NAS "Hip-Hop is Dead" No statement can be more true than that. I mean you have your reliable Hip-Hop Artists like: 50 cent, Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, Common, just to name a few. But there are not many.

In closing there is good music out there but good luck finding it in this sea of crap and gimicks.

I work in the music industry. CD sales dropped 40% last year. It is a revolution that can not be changed or stopped. Digital sales are taking over.

It's no one's fault, it's just the way the world is going. As convenience becomes the more important factor in buying music over centimentalism, our generation will continue to buy less and less CDs. Also, as more and more kids age into music buyers who never expereinced just how special it can be to buy a CD instead of downloading from itunes, CD sales will drop. Just as so many of us have never bought a record or cassette tape, many of the next generation will never buy a CD.

As many might say cassete tapes were better and more sentimental because you had to listen to the whole tape as it was much harder to skip around that you got to know the music much better and become much closer to it, many will say the packadge of a CD and all the art is priceless. As many of us told the generation before, our kids will tell us, "fuck the art, I pushed one button and I own every song this band has ever written and it's also already been copied to my car's harddrive and every stereo in the house."

The decline in sales is really no one's fault. If you want to see CDs stick around a little longer, go buy some. Sales dropped 40% in 06, no since ipods were made, in one year. They drop much more next year and we can start saying good bye.

In my eyes, you can neer have too much music. Unless your computer only has its basic programs needed to run it and the rest of your disk space is NOTHING BUT MUSIC... which a stadard tower (and the desktop computer that i own) normally has 180gigs of space.....

Why are CD sales falling? Because it's faster, easier, cheaper and overall more convenient to load up Limewire or download a torrent and get whatever you want in the comfort of your home at 1am. Oh and it takes up allot less physical space that way (what, you think that DVD succeeded because of its improved quality and extras on the disks?)

I support artists I enjoy by paying to watch them live whenever I can. Oh, I don't bother bullshitting that I use P2P to "try" music then buy a CD if I think the artist deserves it. Musicians don't make nearly enough money from CD sales to make that excuse legitimate.

hmmmmm.....Depends,new music,well some of the new music is good,some is bad,i dont like old music though,rap/hip-hop is somethin in a scale of 1-10 id give a 4 maybe,rock 1-10 maybe 8-9,and country is a genre i hate,lmao,too much music,its juss people trying to make money,but most of the girl artists cant sing as shit.lol,most of em' anyway,but if their hot,who cares,lol,but rock bands,i guess their might be to many of them,you hear about a new one everyday,i bet 1-3 rockbands are made each day seriously,their is so many of them out their,but only about 10% of them become known for more then 20 years,aKa:"Popular,like Korn,metallica,AcDc,Beetles,i dont like any of them 3 bands i namedNo Offence,but either way they still became very poular and known,and they will probubly be known for a very long time,i dont think its so much as to many bands,or music,i take it as there is to many genres,theres over 1,000 genres probubly,and about 13% of them theres only 1-8 bands in each,thats sad,making a whole genre for up to 8 bands/artist(s),and the chances of one of them being known for a long while is slim,So in my opinion,i just think their is to many genres....

But the reason most cd's arent being sold i think is for they get a bunch of very yound artist(s) out their,and band(s),and knowone once to listen to them,or they just suck all together,but i like alot of the new music today,we're going in to just new kinds of music thats all,music fans will adjust,their just looking for music all in the WRONG PLACES,their are tons of good artist(s),and band(s) out their,just they arent famous enough for people to know about them..[/b]
