rendering settings on vegas 7

i have two questions....
1) using sony vegas 7, can someone tell me how i can get the best quality video using xvid and h264 while rendering? theres just too much detail in the settings
2) i know i shouldve done a search on this, but somehow i cant get what i am looking for....for example.. i typed in RENDERING SETTINGS and i couldnt find anything relevant.

export losslessly from Vegas

compress with either Virtualdub mod (for xvid with mp3 audio) or zarxgui (for .264)

and for even cleaner quality clean up your video
