Wow, good list this year, amazed we even made it... (Lawrence Studios)

Win, lose, or draw, it'll be a good run.

Always remember "well-known" does not equate to a good video ;) so everyone has an equal chance.

Frankly just seeing your video in arguably the largest showing in the East Coast makes it all worthwhile. Enjoy it :)
Uh oh, DW pimped the con.... guess that means he wins his category. Gratz dude, the award will be sent out as soon as they are done being made
-_-

I know you're just kidding, but I was being serious :P.

I've always enjoyed submitting to Otakon but have been busy with my Ph. D lately and haven't had a chance to edit anything proper (it's debateable if what I submitted this year is proper >_>).

Being that it's the only con I can consistently attend (since it's in the summer) and the audience is well...huge (honestly who can argue against this), of course I enjoy seeing my video there (regardless of the result).

Frankly if Tim didn't guilt trip me into going in 2003, I would never have known that. And now here I am attending my...fifth year in a row 8-). Too bad I've only submitted four times >_>

So yes, in short (to some degree), I am in fact pimping you >_>

^_^
That's quite a different attitude than I saw last year, it's really appreciated.
Good luck on the doctorate btw (says the 25 year old guy who has yet to decide WHAT he wants to do, let alone go to school for it).

There's a difference between not agreeing with some of the decisions of previous department heads and being out on the con entirely. I've enjoyed my times at Otakon every year.

Oh lol, I thought ya just hated me personally. BTW, if ya wanna let me know about some of those past decisions (or current ones for that matter) please PM or email me. Input is always welcome.

OH, and while I'm on the subject of decisions.... wanted to let everyone know were gonna be doing the contest categories in the traditional style. In general a number of the reviewers like it how it is and honestly I do to. I know it's a bit difficult for some people to sit through romance and drama side by side, but I don't think anyone will mind as much this year thanks to some of the videos.

This is true. I think the only reason I say that is because my first time I made it into Katsucon, I had a washed-out VHS-copy of my Fushigi Yuugi AMV shown directly after Kusoyara's "Sappy Self-Indulgence."

Don't get me wrong - I am still very excited to be seeing my AMV shown, and I can't wait to see the others. Even the overflow videos two years ago when I last went were quite excellent.

I have faith in the contest, there's no doubt about that. I still believe that the categories could be re-worked for the better. I will keep motioning for changes, but I understand that the conventional standard is hard to break.

It's hard to change because it works. I thought of different ways of doing it, but to be honest no matter what you do nothing else really feels right. Going from Romantic to Action or Upbeat then to Serious just doesn't flow well. Contrary to how good serious or romantic videos can be, experience has shown me time and time again that the average viewer doesn't care for them too much (at least not as much as action, upbeat, or comedy). Going from one of those last three categories to Serious or Romantic is like AMV suicide. You can almost hear the collective sign of disappointment/boredom from the audience.
While an individual person might not have a problem with it you need to consider the contest is intended for a large audience numbering in the thousands. And without giving away too much info, this years Friday night screening is shaping up to be the largest in Otakon history. In that sort of circumstance a more progressively uplifting contest (ie: ramping up the energy a bit at a time with each following category) makes for a better show. And int he end, once you get past the creators, and art, and this or that, the contest is a show.

Did you mean to say "Friday night"?

And what's with all these little hints, huh? :P
Just kidding, it's much better to keep non-finalized plans under wraps than to jump the gun and get people's hopes up. I'll try not to speculate for now, but in the interest of planning out a busy weekend... the con programming booklet gets released online a little bit before con weekend, right?
