I'm kinda sad to hear this. If James retires then there probably won't be an AX contest next year. Which is really a shame, no matter what else happened I always knew that year after year AX was good for a laugh at the excessive drama of it all. With that going away the only funny over the top emo con crap will superboi or brakus to get pissed they didn't win and that gets kind boring after awhile. This is a sad day, comedy truly is a dying breed.

I know of several people who'd be glad to take the helm such as Brad DeMoss, myself, and Michael Underwood (AKA DigitalPanther). The problem is that it takes a lot of political clout and a thick skin to keep AMV afloat in its current climate.

In all honesty, I have a feeling James' exit had some subtext behind it along the line of "I'm stepping down until and unless things change." If AX miraculously changes its tune, great, I'll bet he'll jump back in. If it's politics as usual, yeah, best to end the suffering.

This has been the issue with a lot of staff members. Our department would go back, with no problems if a select couple of people get removed from power. This is probably not going to happen, and it bums me out that I won't be helping james with the AMV contest, and won't be able to help other people out.

Sounds to me like a team is needed. One to run political interference, another to do the tech work and one to be the contest spokes person. And on the day of the event, all three have copies and hired personal security

You know what are fun? Pamphlets. Especially when they detail all the problems everyone says are bottled up - the more scathing and scandelous the better. Of course you need to print a LOT of them... and you need to have fearless people passing them out. But pamphlets rock - Beurocrats HATE them... And since lots of con goers are cosplayers and emo kids, they're sheep that'll believe anything you write, or at least cause lots of drama over it. 8-)

So the SKIN and Haruhi concert were delayed by like 2 or 3 hours (and sucked) so does that mean events like that can be canceled now? Would only be proper...

Oh wait it has Japanese Guests or is Industry related...my bad.

Otakon >>>>> AX

yeah I went there...

Edit: And I didn't it to be misconstrued that I am angry at James or Katy. I'm actually quite happy for them to finally get away from the stress and relax :P. They've put a lot of hard work into this contest for years and I'd like to thank them for their work. Honestly, if I were in there shoes, I'd have quit years ago and I'm glad they didn't.

My anger is moreso with AX as an entity. That sounds weird. I should sleep.

Do we really need a legitimate reason to DQ Evanesence videos? Aren't there too many of them already?

Agreed.
Even if they're overdone, being disqualified from a contest for that reason, even as a joke is too stupid of thinking. "Lets just disqualify videos for using Naruto too!", and then where would Daniel be, huh? Think about Daniel for once.
