I agree with Orwell about Monster — absolutely excellent — but 74 episodes doesn't really seem that long.

Ranma got me into anime.
Sailormoon is a pet obsession though.
I like Urusei Yatsura a lot as well.
Slayers is hard to hate.
Ranma was neat, in that it allows you to ponder would you bitch if you could be an awesome martial artists, and also able to indulge every imaginable abuse of being able to be either gender at will.
Sailormoon because I like sappy romance anime.
Urusei Yatsura because it's hard to hate a cute girl that's always in a bikini. And the series was always mindlessly funny.
Slayers mostly because it's the best Dungeons and Dragons like funny anime out there.
But as much as I like those series, my top 5 animes are actually not on that list.
