Am I the only one who didn't like Lucky Star?
It's a matter of taste, just because you didn't like something, doesn't mean you're the odd one out, some people like different things. I personally didn't care for Karas, I couldn't make it through some of it, but it wasn't horrible either.

I'm not making a final judgement on Karas until I see the second DVD, and I am very much looking forward to it (October 25th or so?).
The storyline doesn't seem very deep, but it is there. It's a classic:
1. Good guy turns bad and starts recruiting other bad guys.
2. Rebellion starts, picks up steam, but lacks any kind of cohesion.
3. Good guy emerges and generally gets his ass kicked until he can come to terms with one of the following:
a. Parentage
b. His own shortcomings
c. Father is a dark jedi and main character kissed his sister in the first sequel
d. Sees the Melody of Oblivion
e. Discovers he's a failed Sephiroth clone
f. Finds the Sorcerers Stone
g. ...you get the idea
4. Grueling if not unbelievable end-game resulting in much rejoicing.
...
Or is that plot? Damnit! And it was so funny in my head!

The good guy didn't seem to get his ass kicked that much. In fact, the battles in Karas seemed to suffer from the "Battle an episode" format, like this:
1. Episode begins
2. villian (usually stupid henchman for main villian) introduced
3. villian causes problems
4. Main character appears to save the day
5. Main character fights villian and ALWAYS WINS! (usually utilizing some kind of superpowerful combo)
6. Episode ends.

Consider that type of plot structure to be a classic homage from what you see in various superhero comics. I remember reading that the production company Tatsunoko (the animation company who brought out classics like Gatchaman and Speed Racer) that they want to create a 21st Century superhero for their 40th Anniversary work that would at least make into cult classic.
The bottom line is that Karas wasn't really meant to a deep, provocative OVA series. It reeks of eye-candy, but they did it such an entertaining matter. Maybe we might get a better understanding once the second DVD of the series gets released. Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

I think it's been decided that when you mix action and story (let's say a... love story) together the result is absolute shit like Spiderman 3. As for Karas -- although it had those typical "every-angle-Bay" moments, it also had a good mix between CGI and what seemingly was hand drawn. Overall, I thought the fight scenes may have been a little much, in terms of slo-mo noobie Sparta battles, but the Japanese mythological creatures and story gave it enough to keep me interested.Falconone wrote:AC was not so very good i wished, it was stupid action and with not good story.

*Shrug* If you're determined to not to like the show, you won't like the show. The solution, of course, is - *ahem* don't see the sequel!
I for one plan on it. I don't watch Karas, AC, Hellsing, or Ninja Scroll because they pose some philosophical question or have a deep plot. They're fun shows! You could certainly do worse than partake in 3 hours or so (counting all the eps of Karas) of eye candy.
Other than that, I'm not sure exactly what kind of discourse you're looking for. Karas is a flashy action flick, I don't think anyone is arguing that point.
