Classic Anime AMV
Hello folks, even though I'm currently in production on several AMV projects I have another one that I could use a little extra advice with.
I want to use Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" and various anime sources that are both old and new but similar. Let me show you what I mean:
Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon
Spike vs. Rock
Faye vs. Revy
Jet vs. Dutch
Radical Ed vs. Benny
Hellsing 2002 TV vs. Hellsing 2006 OVA
Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Rahxephon
Dragon Ball Z vs. Naruto
Vampire Hunter D vs. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Vash the Stampede (Trigun) vs. Abel Nightroad (Trinity Blood)
It's all an idea of old vs. new...and the way I want to try it is the old anime is preferable over today's choices. Now that's just the opinion of the video, not my own, but to me the song begs to be used. There are many overused character types and several of them are practically carbon copies. If anyone can think of any more similar shows/characters let me know and I'll include them.

I can think of a few anime that have similiarities:
Bubblegum Crisis vs. Burst Angel
Cutey Honey vs. other android girl shows (Steel Angel Kurumi, Mahoromatic, Nuku Nuku, etc. Heck, you could also do Cutey Honey vs. magical girl shows, although there were other, albeit lesser known, similar shows that preceded it.)
GUNxSWORD (aka. Gun Sword) is sort of a mish-mash of Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and Big O
Well, there's a whole bunch of anime that were remade and had significant changes in the story, characters, or artwork that could be used instead or in addition (although sometimes the newer version is better than the older one ):
Bubblegum Crisis (OAV) vs. Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 (TV)
Oh My Goddess! (OAV) vs. Ah! My Goddess (TV)
Kanon (2002) vs. Kanon (2006)
Dirty Pair (TV) vs. Dirty Pair Flash (OAV)
Cutey Honey (TV) vs. Cutey Honey Flash (TV) vs. Re: Cutey Honey (OAV)
All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku (OAV) vs. APCCGNN DASH! (OAV) vs. Nuku Nuku (TV)*
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV) vs. Tenchi Uninverse (TV) vs. Tenchi in Tokyo (TV)*
El Hazard - The Magnificent World (OAV) vs. El Hazard: The Wanderers (TV)*
Futakoi (TV) vs. Futakoi Alternative (TV)*
And there are those TV vs. Movie versions where the movie is an alternate re-telling like:
Air (TV) vs. Air (Movie)
Vision of Escaflowne (TV) vs. Vision of Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea (Movie)*
SDF Macross (TV) vs. Macross: Do You Remember Love? (Movie)
Not to mention the sequel/spinoff series like Gunbuster (aka. Aim for the Top! Gunbuster) vs. Gunbuster 2 (aka. Aim for the Top 2! Diebuster)...
* Some or all of the alternate series have the same (or very similar) character designs and art style(s) which make it hard to distinguish the difference in the shows visually.

Anyone got a good older counterpart to Samurai Champloo? And please, not Samurai X. It's a good idea, but I'd rather find an older Samurai anime with more humor.
Keep giving me suggestions, these are some good ideas.
Oh, and if you want an idea of what I want to do, check out the video at the bottom. It won't be quite like this, but along the same lines.

Plus, can anyone think of an anime with a guy sliding across a floor in socks and underwear? Yes, I would like to put in a "Risky Buisiness" homage to start it off. I realize that this may be a tall order, but just throwing it out there.

Well, there is the Rurouni Kenshin TV series which happens after the events of Samurai X (Samurai X, aka. Rurouni Kenshin OAV is a prequel to the TV series). The early Rurouni Kenshin episodes are much more lighthearted than the latter ones and VERY different than the OAV series.SamuraiJake wrote:Anyone got a good older counterpart to Samurai Champloo? The only other one that is even remotely similar is Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran (TV). Jubei-chan - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch (TV) or its sequel Jubei-Chan 2: The Counter Attack of Siberia Yagyu (TV) are much more lighthearted and comedic but story-wise there isn't much parallel to Samurai Champloo.

It'll take some scene searching, but you could probably use Goemon Ishikawa XIII from Lupin III vs. Jin from Samurai Champloo AND Lupin from Lupin III vs. Mugen from Samurai Champloo. It's kind of a stretch, but they sort of remind me of one another. Your easiest bet is to check out Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.SamuraiJake wrote:Anyone got a good older counterpart to Samurai Champloo? And please, not Samurai X. I also thought of:
The Slayers vs. Scrapped Princess
Ranma 1/2 vs. Tenjou Tenge
